Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 33: Mumbai Indians vs SunRisers Hyderabad | 19:30 IST, April 17
After a string of losses, both MI and SRH picked up massive wins in their last outings and will now look to build on that momentum to get things back on track.
After four straight losses, the SunRisers’ explosive batting unit came together last time out as Abhishek Sharma’s whirlwind 141 powered home a record chase against the Punjab Kings. Sharma and his opening partner, Travis Head (66 off 37), both found some form as they went about their business in explosive style. Despite being criticised for their one-dimensional batting approach, SRH have stuck to their strength, and it doesn’t look like they’ll back away from it.
That said, the SRH management’s attention had better shift to their bowling now. Mohammed Shami and Pat Cummins have been leaking runs all season, with Harshal Patel and Zeeshan Ansari leading the attack instead. Cummins and Co will be well aware of the fact that, once their bowling department starts firing as well, there will be very little left that could stop them.
On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians, like SRH, were also languishing at the bottom end of the table before their win over the Delhi Capitals in their last game. Consistency has been their biggest issue, especially with their batting unit, which finally came together against DC. Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma all found some form, while Naman Dhir continued to provide the team with lower-order fireworks. Captain Hardik Pandya has been in strong form with the bat, and if Rohit Sharma can get some runs flowing, the MI batting unit will be one to fear.
Like SRH, MI’s opening bowlers Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar have not only been missing among the wickets column, they’ve been leaking runs as well. One positive in this regard, however, is the return of Jasprit Bumrah, while Pandya has also been impactful with the ball. Mitchell Santner, MI’s main spinner, has also been expensive thus far, though Karn Sharma (3/36), coming on as an Impact Player, managed to turn things around in the last game. In him, Pandya may have found a key solution for his bowling lineup.
At the Wankhede Stadium, we should be in for another high-scoring game, especially given the poor form of the two teams’ bowling units. Given their explosive batting lineup, we hand the SunRisers Hyderabad the edge for this encounter.
