Match 47 of the 2025 Indian Premier League season brings us a crucial encounter between a struggling Rajasthan Royals side and the top-of-the-table Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on April 28.
For the race, here are our preview and predictions.
Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 47: Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans | 19:30 IST, April 28
It’s do-or-die time for the Royals as they sit eighth in the table with just two wins in nine, while the Titans will be one way away from securing playoff qualification with a victory here.
RR have only themselves to blame for their plight this season. They’re coming into this game having butchered three comfortable games on the bounce.
Last time out against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it was truly a painful watch having to witness another collapse from this new-look Royals side. When Riyan Parag was dismissed in the tenth over, RR needed 96 runs from 65 balls with seven wickets in hand. They had managed to bring it down to just 22 needed off 12 balls, but yet again they managed to steal defeat from the jaws of victory.
Another key contributor to their downfall this season has been their average bowling. Add to that their uninspired fielding, and it isn’t difficult to assess why they are where they are.
GT, on the other hand, have been the exact opposite. Their top-order batters have delivered runs on a consistent basis, and the ones in the middle have done their job as well. In terms of bowling, their spinners are stifling opposition batters through the middle overs, while the seamers are doing the job across all three phases of play.
At the moment, the Titans are the team to beat. There are hardly any weaknesses in this GT lineup, with the bowling conundrum regarding Arshad Khan and Ishant Sharma arguably being their sole concern. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna are currently having their best season in the IPL, while the spin duo of Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan keep growing more into the tournament with every game as the pitches tire and slow down across the country.
Looking at this encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, it’s difficult to look beyond the Titans. They are the form team and have the seam-bowling attack to cause some serious problems at the pacer-friendly Sawai Mansingh pitch. Moreover, it will be interesting to see whether RR can pick themselves up after three gut-wrenching defeats on the bounce.
