Match 37 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season brings us a mouthwatering clash between two former champions, with hosts Chennai Super Kings (CSK) welcoming the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Chepauk for a Sunday afternoon affair.

Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 37: Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans | 15:30 IST, 26 April 2026

The Super Kings have turned a corner in recent weeks and find themselves sitting fifth on the points table thanks to three wins in their last four outings.

One of the key catalysts to their uptick in fortunes has been Sanju Samson’s return to form; the Kerala-born batter has already hit two centuries this season. With Ayush Mhatre now ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury, and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad failing to put up anything of substance thus far, the entire run-scoring burden has fallen on Samson and CSK’s fragile middle order.

Apart from Sarfaraz Khan, who has shown glimpses of his potential in a couple of outings, none of the other CSK middle-order batters have been able to provide any meaningful contribution. Both of their INR 14-crore signings, Kartik Sharma and Prasant Veer, have flattered to deceive in the limited opportunity given to them, and it is highly unlikely they’ll be used further down the line unless an injury or a significant loss of form rules out some other key player.

In the CSK bowling department, Anshul Kamboj has been the star of the show and leads the Purple Cap race with 14 wickets in seven outings. Akeal Hosein was the game-changer for CSK against the Mumbai Indians, as the slow left-arm spinner spun a web around the MI batters and finished the game with figures of 4/17 in his quota of four overs.

It further bodes well for the Super Kings that the rest of their bowling attack has started to chip in, with the likes of Noor Ahmad and Gurjapneet Singh now getting among the wickets as well.

As for the Titans, they suffered their heaviest defeat in the tournament in their last game against the Mumbai Indians. With three wins in six games and a poor net run rate, GT need an immediate response. While their bowling attack has done well throughout this campaign, the same cannot be said about their batting line-up.

Last season’s Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan has had a torrid time this season, having managed just 135 runs in six outings, including a 73 against the Rajasthan Royals in Match 9. That said, both Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler have lived up to their potential, having registered 265 and 206 runs, respectively, so far this season.

Besides Sudharsan, the GT middle order has been another area of concern. As highlighted earlier in our SWOT analysis of the team, both Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia have underperformed so far this season, but what’s hurting the team more is the lack of output from Glenn Phillips. The New Zealand international had a wonderful T20 World Cup but has only scored 67 runs in his five outings this season. Thus, changes will have to be made in order to get this batting line-up clicking again.

In the bowling attack, things have been much better for GT, with almost all of their key starters delivering consistently. Last season’s Purple Cap winner Prasidh Krishna has carried on his good work, having taken 12 wickets, while Kagiso Rabada has been a breath of fresh air with the new ball. The rest of the bowlers in Mohammed Siraj, Rashid Khan, and newcomer Ashok Sharma have done well, having plucked six wickets each.

In terms of weather forecast and pitch report for this game, conditions are expected to be hot and humid with no significant expectation of rain. Expect the team winning the toss to bat first.

The pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium for IPL 2026 has been a batting-friendly wicket, assisting batters while offering some movement to bowlers with the new ball. Since this is a day game, spinners may come into play during the middle overs.

The Chennai Super Kings, despite their narrow defeat against SunRisers Hyderabad, have found some sort of momentum with three wins in four. Given the Gujarat Titans are on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of form following an inconsistent campaign, the early signs look promising for CSK. However, given the nature of this tournament, we won’t be surprised if GT somehow come out on top in this one.

Fantasy XI: Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Sai Sudharsan, Sarfaraz Khan, Jos Buttler (c), Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton (vc), Rashid Khan, Anshul Kamboj, Prasidh Krishna, Noor Ahmad
