IPL 2026 | Match 47: MI vs LSG | Preview and Prediction

It is a clash of teams at the bottom of the points table as a feeble Mumbai Indians (MI) side take on a struggling Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) outfit.

Both sides will be desperate to avoid finishing at the bottom of the table as they face off in Match 47 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

For the game, here we present our preview and predictions.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 47: Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants | 19:30, 4 May 2026

It was once again more of the same for the Mumbai Indians, as a litany of mistakes, poor decisions, and poor performances contrived to make them suffer another humbling loss this season, with the Chennai Super Kings completing another league double over them.

MI were once again sloppy with the bat. They failed to put a substantial score on the board, courtesy of their snail-like batting in the middle and death overs, and their bowling was once again proven to be toothless and lacking the spunk and nous to pick wickets at a consistent level.

What added to MI’s misery were the cryptic statements made by skipper Hardik Pandya during post-match presentations, where he conveniently seemed to be happy to put everyone bar himself under the bus. Pandya has been a shadow of himself with both bat and ball this season, with his captaincy also not exuding too much confidence among players, fans, and pundits alike. It feels like MI are in a state of absolute freefall, with no remedy or solution in sight.

There could be a little bit of a boost for MI, though, with Rohit Sharma having taken a fitness test on the eve of the home game. His return could probably be the spark that this embattled and beleaguered MI side needs to jolt up this flagging campaign, even though it may be a case of too little too late.

Their opponents for this game have been just as poor this season, if not worse. The Lucknow Super Giants have been a dumpster fire throughout the season, having been on the receiving end of some rather hilariously poor squad-building and daft decision-making.

The Super Giants started the season like they meant business, winning two out of their first three games, but they have since embarked on a five-match losing streak, which has put them on the brink of elimination.

LSG being where they are at this stage is utterly baffling, given they have arguably the best-performing bowling attack in the tournament. Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Digvesh Rathu have all been among the wickets and have more often than not restricted teams to under-par totals. Their batting unit, meanwhile, has been among the worst this season, and nobody embodies their issues better than Nicholas Pooran, who has had an absolutely wretched time in the middle this year.

Pooran’s nadir came in LSG’s recent defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the super over, where he was dismissed on the first ball by Sunil Narine. Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Rishabh Pant have all had underwhelming returns with the bat too. LSG now hope that the arrival of Josh Inglis gives them some much-needed impetus with the bat, but as things stand, things do look bleak for them.

There is not much to separate these two sides, but we believe that the Mumbai Indians will finally have a win here and condemn the Lucknow Super Giants to further agony.

Fantasy XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Mitchell Marsh, Ryan Rickelton, Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Tilak Varma, Jasprit Bumrah, Prince Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Mohammed Shami

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
Winners Prediction: Mumbai Indians
