With the number of teams in the race for the Playoffs beginning to diminish with every passing game, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders face each other with both sides harbouring genuine Playoff aspirations as well as a desperate need to avoid being the team to be eliminated in what is a fascinating Match Number 57 of the 2026 IPL Season.
Here is our Preview and Prediction for the game.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally managed to snap a 2-game losing run courtesy a dramatic last-ball victory over the Mumbai Indians that catapulted them to the top of the table on Net Run Rate (NRR), given that two other teams are on the same number of points.
However, despite the much-needed victory, the defending champions have a number of questions that need to be answered as the tournament heads into the business end where every game matters and the margin for error reduces with every passing game. For starters, the form of the opening pair of Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell has been patchy and dodgy in the last 3-4 games, with the former’s form plateauing at the most inopportune moment. He has now been dismissed for two consecutive ducks, and has just 51 runs in his last 4 innings.
Jacob Bethell, on the other hand, has also found runs pretty hard to come by in his stay out in the middle, with the stylish southpaw scoring a measly 56 runs in his last 4 innings at a strike of just 116.
The loss of form of the RCB openers has contrived to put pressure on the rest of the batting order, who are also on tenterhooks with their recent form. The middle order of Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Romario Shepherd came an absolute cropper, with David and Shepherd combining to score 4 runs. It took an all-time knock from a severely cramping Krunal Pandya and a late late six from Bhuvaneshwar Kumar to get them past the finish line.
The batters will have to back up the efforts of their superlative bowling attack if they want to stay at the top of the table, because the chasing pack is right on their heels and there is no breathing room whatsoever.
They will be facing a suddenly rejuvenated KKR side who have now won 4 straight games in a row and will most definitely be fancying their chances of making it 5 in a row given the uncertain form of their opponents.
It has been a complete overhaul of KKR fortunes after a horror start that had them slump to the bottom of the table before this run of form. Their side seems to be peaking at just the right time. Finn Allen finally found his touch as he romped his way to a belligerent 100 in their last game. Their bowling has found a new lease of life and they have been bowling exceedingly well in tandem, managing to restrict teams to under-par totals.
They have beaten Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, 3 teams who are touted to be frontrunners to make the Playoffs. With the brand of cricket they have been playing, they will most definitely fancy their chances of picking up another high-ranking scalp as they push their own bid to qualify for the Playoffs.
Both sides are approaching this fixture with a win in their previous encounters, but the spectrum at which they find themselves could not have been any more different. One is in uncertain territory while the other is full of confidence and momentum and playing with a bit of swagger in their step.
It is going to be a very close contest, but we believe that Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be the favourites, albeit by the thinnest of margins.
