IPL 2026 | Match 57: RCB vs KKR | Preview and Predictions
With the number of teams in the race for the play-offs beginning to diminish with every passing game, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face off in Match 57 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, both harbouring genuine aspirations to make it to the next stage.
For the game, here we present our preview and predictions.
Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 57: Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Kolkata Knight Riders | 19:30, May 13, 2026
The Royal Challengers managed to snap a two-game losing run courtesy of a dramatic last-ball victory over the Mumbai Indians in their last game, which also catapulted them to the top of the table on net run rate (NRR). However, despite the much-needed victory, the defending champions have a number of questions that need to be answered as the tournament heads into the business end, where every game matters and the margin for error reduces with every passing game.
For starters, the form of the opening pair Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell has been patchy in recent games, with the former’s form in particular plateauing at the most inopportune moment. Kohli has now been dismissed for two consecutive ducks and has just 51 runs in his last four innings. Bethell, meanwhile, has also found runs pretty hard to come by, with the stylish southpaw having scored a measly 56 runs in his last four innings at a strike rate of just 116.
The loss of form of the RCB openers has put pressure on the rest of the batters, who are also on tenterhooks with their recent form. Middle-order batters Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Romario Shepherd came an absolute cropper last time out, with David and Shepherd combined to score just four runs. It took an all-time knock from a severely cramping Krunal Pandya and a late, late six from Bhuvneshwar Kumar to get RCB past the finish line.
RCB’s batters will have to back up the efforts of their superlative bowling attack if they want to stay at the top of the table, because the chasing pack is right on their heels and there is no breathing room whatsoever.
RCB are facing here a suddenly rejuvenated KKR side who have won four straight games and will most definitely be fancying their chances of making it five in a row given the uncertain form of their opponents.
It has been a complete overhaul of KKR’s fortunes after a horror start that saw them slump to the bottom of the table before this run of form; their players seem to be peaking at just the right time. Finn Allen finally found his touch as he romped his way to a belligerent hundred last time out, while their bowling attack has found a new lease of life and has been performing exceedingly well, restricting teams to under-par totals.
Recently, the Knight Riders have beaten the Delhi Capitals, the Rajasthan Royals, and SunRisers Hyderabad, three teams who are touted to make the play-offs ahead of them. With the brand of cricket they have been playing, they will most definitely back themselves to pick up another high-ranking scalp as they push their own bid to qualify for the play-offs.
Both sides are coming into the fixture on the back of a win in their previous encounters, but they couldn’t be farther from each other on the performance spectrum. One is in uncertain territory, while the other is full of confidence and playing with a bit of swagger.
Despite their recent form, we expect this to be a very close contest and back Royal Challengers Bengaluru as favourites for the win, albeit by the thinnest of margins.
