IPL 2026 | Match 69: MI vs RR | Preview and Predictions
The qualification hopes of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) hinge on a do-or-die encounter against a Mumbai Indians (MI) side who’ll be fighting to avoid the ignominy of a third bottom-placed finish in the last five years in a high-stakes Match 69 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
For the game, here we present our preview and predictions.
Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 69: Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals | 15:30 IST, May 24, 2026
The Mumbai Indians have had a season of nightmarish proportions. This team, who were earmarked to potentially win the title this season, have spent almost the entire season languishing at the foot of the league-stage table.
MI’s season lurched into further agony as they fell to a disappointing defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Another poor batting performance, followed by an under-par bowling display, means that Hardik Pandya has lost four straight games as captain for the third time in the IPL.
A lot of things have gone wrong for MI, starting all the way from team selection, to captaincy decisions, loss of form, injuries to key players, and a lack of luck in crunch moments.
Now, MI will be most eager to finish this dreary season on a high. Their last game against the Rajasthan Royals is their annual EFA (Education for All) game, where they bring 25,000 children to the game to give them a memorable experience. They will most definitely want to put up a performance for the sake of these young kids and make sure that their first experience in the stadium turns out to be a memorable one for the right reasons.
The Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have once again managed to get another lease of life following a couple of defeats. Last time out, they managed to get the better of the Lucknow Super Giants courtesy of another all-timer knock by teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who blasted a 38-ball-93 as the Royals chased down a massive 220-run target rather comfortably.
Sooryavanshi’s innings came as a surprise, given that this was his slowest fifty in the IPL, and yet he smashed his runs at a strike rate of well over 250, which makes his meteoric rise all the more scary. He was ably supported by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel, with a late cameo from Donovan Ferreira sealing the deal in Jaipur.
While their batting has been brilliant, RR’s bowling output has tapered off significantly, having taken a beating against the bottom team at home. They will have to be much better against an MI side who, on paper, have a much better batting line-up than the Super Giants.
The last time these two sides met earlier in the season was in a rain-curtailed match in Guwahati. The Royals emerged victorious in a truncated 11-over-a-side match by 27 runs courtesy of a barnstorming opening display of power-hitting by their openers, which was followed by an aggressive display of fast bowling to break the back of the MI batting in the Powerplay itself.
We believe that the Rajasthan Royals are the outright favourites for the win coming into this contest. The must-win nature of the game means that the Mumbai Indians will not be able to best the Royals, even though they may be in the game for a while.
