Young British driver Jessica Edgar has been announced as Rodin Carlin’s first driver for the inaugural season of F1 Academy.
The 17-year-old who races in the GB4 Championship, which is a single-seater motorsport series in the UK, will be making her debut outside the UK later in 2023 through the first season of the upcoming F1 Academy.
The F1 Academy is an all-female driver series and is set to have 15 drivers on the grid racing for the following teams: ART, Campos Racing, Carlin, MP Motorsport and PREMA Racing — all fielding three cars each. With an aim to develop the upcoming female drivers, the inaugural season of the F1 Academy will have seven events with three races each, which means a total of 21 races and 15 days of testing.
Jessica Edgar spoke about joining the team, stating:
“I’m very happy to have signed with Rodin Carlin for the F1 Academy. As soon as I heard about the series; the backing of Formula One and the teams and people involved I was extremely keen to be part of this first historic season. I know the Rodin Carlin team pretty well and to go into this first season together is a dream come true. I’m really excited to get the season underway.“
Stephanie Carlin ,Team Principal, Rodin Carling, said:
“We’re very proud to announce our first driver in F1 Academy ahead of what we expect to be an exciting and historic season. Jess was already well known to us, and the opportunity to work with her in F1 Academy came at exactly the right time in her career. With only one season in car racing to her name, there is still plenty to learn, but Jess is extremely motivated and we look forward to unlocking her potential in the season ahead.“
