WPL 2025 | Match 16: UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians | Preview and Predictions

The UP Warriorz will play the Mumbai Indians in Match 16 of the 2025 Women’s Premier League season at the Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground in Lucknow. Both teams are coming into this encounter having lost their previous matches, so a win here is vital for them both.

For the game, here are our preview and predictions.

WPL 2025 | Match 16: UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians | 19:30 IST, March 6

The Mumbai Indians lost to the Delhi Capitals in their last encounter. They batted first but could not manage to get to a big total, managing only 123/9 as none of their top-order batters got going. Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani bowled superbly for the Capitals, taking three wickets each to restrict the inaugural WPL champions.

In response, the DC chased down the total relatively quickly—in just 14.3 overs—with their openers Meg Lanning (60* off 49) and Shafali Verma (43 off 28) doing the bulk of the scoring.

The MI’s over-reliance on Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur has been pretty visible this season, and if they are to go further in the tournament, their batters need to find form and fast.

On the other hand, after two consecutive wins, the UP Warriorz have now lost two consecutive matches. Their last encounter against the Gujarat Giants was fairly one-sided. The Giants registered an above-par total of 186/5, with opener Beth Mooney leading the way with 96* (59), supported by Harleen Deol (45 | 32). Sophie Ecclestone ended with figures of 2/34 for the Warriorz.

In response, the Warriorz were disappointing and were wrapped up for 105 in 17.3 overs. Kashvee Gautam and Tanuja Kanwar ended with three wickets each for the Giants, who with this win moved to second in the table.

While both the UP Warriorz and the Mumbai Indians are coming into this game defeated, the latter look more likely to win this encounter given the former’s inconsistency and the heavy loss they sustained last time out, which must have dented their confidence.

Fantasy XI: Kiran Navgire, Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Amelia Kerr, Deepti Sharma, Grace Harris, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Chinelle Henry, Sophie Ecclestone, Shabnim Ismail

Winners Prediction: Mumbai Indians
Venue: Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground, Lucknow
