Netherlands vs Morocco | FIFA World Cup 2026 — Round of 32 | Preview and Prediction
In what is arguably one of the games of the round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Netherlands will go up against African powerhouses Morocco in a clash of two varieties of flair in Guadalupe.
For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.
FIFA WC26 | Ro32: NED vs MAR | 06:30 IST, 30 June 2026
The Netherlands have established themselves as one of the most clinical and prolific attacking sides in this tournament. They have not only created high-quality chances for themselves, but have also managed to find the back of the net more often than not, making them a fearful prospect.
The likes of Brian Brobbey, Cody Gakpo, and Crysencio Summerville have all managed to get themselves on the scoresheet and have been ably supported by their defence, which has managed to hold its own in the tournament.
Manager Ronald Koeman will be relieved to know that two of his key players, Brobbey and Denzel Dumfries, have been passed fit for the game, both having played through the group stage with slight knocks.
Once again, the Oranje will rely on the speed and directness of their attackers and the physical presence of Brobbey up front as they look to take the attack to their opponents and assert themselves early on in the game.
Morocco, meanwhile, have had a rather compelling and interesting campaign so far — in a good way. They showed the world that their 2022 semi-final run was not a fluke with a 1–1 draw against Brazil, a game they should have won. They followed it with a narrow but comfortable 1–0 win over Scotland, before a much-changed side took care of business against Haiti, briefly going 2–1 down but eventually prevailing 4–2.
Ismael Saibari has been the man of the moment for the Atlas Lions, having become the first-ever African player to score in three matches for his country. The likes of Brahim Díaz, Noussair Mazraoui, Issa Diop, and Achraf Hakimi will all be back in the starting line-up, as Morocco have no injury or suspension issues to deal with.
Both sides have been pretty formidable in their own right, boasting some pretty outrageous unbeaten runs. While the Netherlands have not lost a single men’s World Cup game since the 2010 final — a 15-game run — Morocco are on an unbeaten run themselves that stretches to 32 games.
With two great teams, two sets of quality names, and some of the best attackers currently on offer, here’s a game that promises a lot of action. Frankly, it is very difficult to pick a favourite for this one, given both sides have been on some really good streaks, so we will go with a draw — but we back Morocco to edge past the Dutch on penalties.
Score Prediction: Netherlands 2–2 Morocco | Morocco go through on penalties
Venue: Estadio Monterrey, Guadalupe, Nuevo León, Mexico
