On Day 15, the USA Women’s National Team beat Brazil 1-0 to win their 5th Olympic Medal in Women’s Football. Mallory Swanson scored the decisive goal for the USA. Germany beat Spain 1-0 to clinch the bronze medal.
Solfrid Koanda of Norway broke two Olympic records in the 81 kg Weightlifting category on her way to the gold medal. She scripted history by lifting a snatch of 121kg and a clean-and-jerk Olympic record of 152 kg. Her total of 275 kg was also a new Olympic record.
Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen came roaring back from the defeat in the 1500-meter to win the Olympic 5000-meter gold! Kenya’s Ronald Kwemoi took silver and America’s Grant Fisher won the bronze.
Women’s Individual Strokeplay – Both Indian Golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar failed to make it to the Top 10 after performing poorly in Round 3 and Round 4 and ended the final round in T29 and T49 positions. Lydia Ko of New Zealand clinched the gold medal.
Women’s 76 kg Freestyle Wrestling – Reetika Hooda fought well against the World No.1 Aiperi Medet but lost the bout in the Quarter Finals. The bout ended 1-1 but Aiperi won it due to scoring the last point.
With this loss, India’s campaign at the Paris Olympics came to an end with India securing a total of 6 medals (1 Silver, 6 Bronze). However, India could get one more silver if the Court of Arbitration (CAS) rule in favour of Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh had appealed to them after being disqualified from the finals of the 50 kg category in freestyle wrestling due to weighing a mere 100 grams over the required weight.
