Amidst growing uncertainty owing to Manchester City’s off-pitch legal issues and lacklustre start to the season, there was reasonable doubt regarding the future of Pep Guardiola, manager of their men’s first team, and whether he would leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
However, great news has poured in for the Man City faithful as the Spaniard has agreed to remain at the club for another season with an option to extend his stay for another year, which could see him remain at City till 2027.
While the financial aspects of the deal haven’t been disclosed, as per reports, the new deal will bring Guardiola over £20 million per year.
The contract extension reaffirms the 53-year-old’s commitment towards the club he joined back in 2016. This can only be considered a boost for the Cityzens as they look to continue their dominance in the Premier League and beyond.
Guardiola is undoubtedly one of the best managers in the world. His style of play, tactical formation, and brilliance on the field have been a true delight for the Premier League. Not only has he transformed Manchester City into a dominant force, he has also revolutionised the landscape of English football as a whole, leaving an indelible mark on the way the game is played.
Guardiola was appointed by the Cityzens following successful spells in charge of the men’s first teams of FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich. He has won 18 trophies so far with the Manchester club, including six Premier League titles and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League triumph, which came in 2023 as part of a historic treble.

City completed an unprecedented four-peat in the league earlier this year, though this season has been an anomaly thus far. The team have been hit with a series of unfortunate injury set-backs to their key players, leaving them far from their exceptional best.
That said, the positive news of Guardiola extending his stay could provide a much-needed boost to the morale at the Etihad. As they’ve done time and time again, City could very well regain their title-winning form and get their campaign back on track, again much to the dismay of their title rivals and their fans.
