South Africa vs India 2nd T20I: Preview and Predictions

Hosts on the backfoot

After taking a hammering in the opening game at the hands of Sanju Samson and India, the Proteas are on the backfoot and need to win to keep their hopes of securing a home series win.

Ahead of the second T20I here’s our match preview and predictions.

South Africa vs India 2nd T20I | India tour of South Africa 2024 | 19:30 IST, November 10

After being put into bat first, India lost Abhishek Sharma early, but that did not deter Sanju Samson. Samson opened up and was at his stroke-flowing best taking on the Proteas bowlers and depositing them all over the Durban ground. Some late runs by Tilak Verma helped India get across the 200 mark although Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Verma and Rinku Singh know that they had a perfect platform to end the innings with some more runs. With the ball, it was the Indian spin-duo of Ravi Bisnoi and Varun Chakravarthy who were not only amongst the wickets but economical too as they bundled out South Africa for 141.

For the hosts, apart from Gerald Coetzee, no one else chipped in with wickets and while Marco Jansen was economical, all of the other bowlers went over 8.5 runs per over. With the bat, it was a shocking performance from the hosts at home as Charkravarthy and Bishnoi applied pressure and spun a web around them. Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller all know that they should’ve capitalised on the starts they got.

There haven’t been too many T20Is played at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, which is a low-scoring ground with a lot of assistance for the slower bowlers. With the firepower in their bowling lineup and the fireworks that Samson showcased, it is India, who are the favourites to go 2-0 up.

Fantasy XI: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Suryakumar Yadav, Heinrich Klaasen, Hardik Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee

Venue: Ggeberha

Winners Prediction: India
