As Forbes released its latest list of the highest-paid football players in the world for the year 2023, we thought why not compile our own list of the highest-paid footballers in the top 5 European leagues?
Provided most of the Bundesliga clubs are fan-owned, including the juggernaut that is Bayern Munich, however, that doesn’t mean the German giants are misers or shy when it comes to paying big salaries to some of their stars. And given the stronghold they have over the league, it isn’t surprising to see all 10 footballers featured here are from Bayern Munich.

Matthijs de Ligt has been around the blocks for so long that sometimes it’s hard to believe that he’s still only 24. Regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world currently, his game has often been compared to Barcelona legend Gerard Piqué over the years. The Bayern board have offered him a €480,769-a-week salary on a four-year deal, taking his gross annual salary to €25 million.
