It is not a hidden fact that most French clubs are struggling to make ends meet and falling behind other European clubs, while Paris Saint-Germain FC (PSG) remain the most dominant force in the land with a limitless supply of riches. As a result, most Ligue 1 sides are having to do with the sell-to-buy approach as they struggle to keep pace with the rest of Europe.

Marshall Nyasha Munetsi is a Zimbabwean professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for both Stade de Reims and the Zimbabwe national team. In June 2019, he joined Reims from South African club Orlando Pirates FC on a four-year deal.
Currently on a weekly salary of €13,846, the 27-year-old signed a four-year contract earlier this year in May that is set to run until June 2027.

Born in Valencia, Pedro Chirivella is a 26-year-old Spanish defensive midfielder who also captains FC Nantes. Since joining the club ahead of the 2020/21 season, Chirivella has gone on to make 90 club appearances for Les Canaris.
Chirivella signed a new four-year contract extension with Nantes in April 2022.

29-year-old Belgium international Thomas Foket plays as a right-back Reims. A KAA Gent academy product, Foket joined Reims in 2018 and has made almost 150 club appearances for them.
In February earlier this year, the Belgium international signed a two-year deal that should keep him Les Pirates until June 2025.

The 32-year-old was a PSG academy product during his younger days before spending a decade at Angers SCO as their first-team goalkeeper. Emmanuel Agbadou is a 26-year-old Ivorian professional player who joined Reims in July 2022. Tied to a five-year deal with the club until June 2027, Agbadou’s €11,538-a-week salary makes him the eighth-lowest-paid footballer in the league.

Gabriel Suazo is a 26-year-old left-back who plays for Toulouse FC and the Chile national team. After eight years with Chilean club Colo-Colo, Suazo made the switch to Les Violets last January after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Habib Maïga is a 27-year-old midfielder plying his trade for FC Metz in Ligue 1. An Ivory Coast international with 13 caps, Maïga has spent his entire club career in France, having started as an AS Saint-Étienne academy graduate.
Maïga signed for FC Metz in August 2020 on a four-year deal. His contract is up for renewal at the end of this season.

Yehvann Diouf, a 23-year-old French goalkeeper, currently plays for Reims. After failing to break through the ranks at ES Troyes AC, he made the switch to Reims on a free transfer after signing a four-year deal in July 2020.
Earlier this year in March, Reims tied down their young goalkeeper to a four-year deal until June 2027.

Romain Del Castillo is a versatile 26-year-old French midfielder playing Stade Brestois. Often deployed as an attacking midfielder or a right-winger, Del Castillo joined Brest from Stade Rennais FC in August 2021, having signed a three-year deal that is set to expire by the end of this season.

Since coming on as an 18-year-old substitute in a 3-1 defeat against PSG in 2013, the now-28-year-old French centre-back has made 178 club appearances for Brest. A first-team regular at the club, Chardonnet’s current four-year deal is set to expire in the summer of 2025.

Cameroon international Jean-Charles Castelleto is a 28-year-old centre-back who plays for FC Nantes. Born in Clamart, France, Castelletto was a youth player at AJ Auxerre.

35-year-old Algeria international Alexandre Oukidja is the lowest-paid footballer in Ligue 1. Despite being the number-one goalkeeper at FC Metz with 166 appearances, his wages barely take his annual gross income to half a million euros.
