Hosts USA will face a tricky Australian side in their second group stage encounter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 20 at Seattle Stadium.

Both Australia and the US opened their respective campaigns with wins. While the latter defeated Paraguay in an emphatic manner, the team from Down Under dealt a massive blow to Türkiye’s knockout ambitions with an upset.

Backed by the home crowd, the Americans produced a statement performance, with Folarin Balogun being the star of the show. The USA dominated proceedings in the first half and almost ended the game in the first half itself. The second half didn’t produce much action, and even though Paraguay pulled a goal back from substitute Maurício, too much damage had been inflicted in the first half. Gio Reyna then wrapped up proceedings in second-half stoppage time.

As for Australia, they upset a wasteful Türkiye side who created many chances but couldn’t convert them and suffered at the hands of the Socceroos. The Aussies caught Türkiye on the counter as Nestory Irankunda opened the scoring with a superb touch and finish in the 27th minute. While Ay-Yildizlilar put Australia under a lot of pressure after going 1–0 down, they simply couldn’t finish their chances. The Aussies then compounded their misery with their second in the 75th minute through Connor Metcalfe’s stunning strike.

Coming to this match-up, the USA are definitely the favourites going into this fixture. However, they are sweating over Christian Pulisic’s fitness, as he is recovering from a calf injury. Australia had very little possession against Türkiye and got away with a win, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men boast quality all over the pitch; giving them the kind of possession they gave Türkiye would be dangerous.

Australia can be dangerous on the counter, something the USA will need to be wary of. Having said that, our prediction for this game is a comfortable victory for the hosts.
