Scotland will be looking to secure another win to guarantee qualification to the next round, while Morocco will look to build on their impressive performance against Brazil to get three more points as both sides meet in what is set to be a high-octane Group C clash of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Boston.
For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.
Scotland marked their first World Cup appearance in 28 years with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Haiti, but they were given a rather hard run for their victory by a hardworking and resilient Haitian side.
While the victory is a welcome boost for the Scots, given that both their upcoming fixtures will be significantly tougher, you cannot help but think that they left a lot to be desired in their performance. Scotland were uninspiring for much of the contest, and had Les Grenadiers been even a slight bit clinical with their chances, it would have been an altogether different story.
A bigger concern for the Scots is that, apart from John McGinn, their midfield seemed to be a little passive and let the game go by on occasions. Napoli man Scott McTominay’s ineffective outing will definitely be a concern for head coach Steve Clarke, who will hope that they are on top of their game against the Moroccans.
The AFCON champions, on the other hand, showed the world that their performance in the 2022 World Cup was no flash in the pan as they went band for band against Brazil and, if anything, will count themselves unfortunate that they only had a point to show for their performance.
Morocco cut through Brazil rather easily at times, baiting them into the press and creating overloads on both flanks. Noussair Mazraoui was one of Morocco’s best performers, while Bayern Munich-bound forward Ismael Saibari gave them the lead with a lovely dinked finish. However, it was 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi, playing in what was only his fourth game, who bossed the midfield and dominated his opposition counterparts with the composure of a veteran.
New Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi will be very pleased with the buy-in from his side given that he only took the reins of the national side in March, and he will hope that they go one step further and take away the three points on offer this time around.
Scott McTominay will have to bounce back from his opening-game slump and bring back some of his Napoli spark if Scotland are to have a chance to take the game to Morocco, who will once again rely on their midfield to give them the impetus as the game wears on. That said, we believe Morocco have too much talent and skill, which is why they are our favourites to win this game.
