British Formula One team Williams Racing have announced that their Team Principal and CEO Jost Capito will be stepping down from both the roles. Along with Capito, Williams’ Technical Director FX Demaison will also step down from his role.
Capito joined Williams as the CEO of the team in December 2020 and was assigned as Team Principal in June 2021, following US investment group Dorilton Capital’s takeover from the Williams family in 2020. After taking over, Capito oversaw Williams’ eighth-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship during the 2021 season, which saw the team finish on the podium for the first time since 2017, and a tenth-place finish during the 2022 season.
Prior to joining Williams, Capito had previously also worked with McLaren in 2016. He is most recognised for his successful stint as the Director of Motorsport at Volkswagen from 2012 to 2016.
Jost Capito spoke about his time and Williams, stating:
“It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team. I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success.“
Matthew Savage, Chairman, Dorilton Capital, added:
“We would like to thank Jost for his hard work and dedication as we embarked on a major transformation process to begin the journey of reviving Williams Racing. We’re grateful that Jost postponed his planned retirement to take on this challenge and now he will pass the reins on for the next part of this staged process. We would also like to thank FX for his contribution and wish him all the best for his future as he moves on.“
