Wimbledon 2026: Top Women’s Singles Contenders

As the grass court season gets underway, tennis fans around the world eagerly anticipate the crown jewel of the sport — Wimbledon, often regarded as the king of Grand Slams. It’s the tournament all players dream of winning and raising aloft the trophy at the centre-court of the iconic All England Club.

Grass courts present a rather unique challenge. Faster than clay but generally slower than hard courts, they demand a versatile skill set due to the uneven and unpredictable bounce. The women’s draw is all the more exciting due to the unpredictability and dynamism that it brings into every Grand Slam.

Here, we take a look at the top contenders for the women’s singles title at Wimbledon 2026.

Aryna Sabalenka

The current World No. 1 remains the firm favourite for the Wimbledon title due to her consistency and dominance on the WTA Tour. She reached the Australian Open final and has won the Sunshine Double this season. Although her form since the clay swing has shown signs of decline, she remains a definite contender for Wimbledon as she has reached multiple semi-finals previously.

Sabalenka’s mentality in crucial games has come under scrutiny on the back of her bizarre loss to Diana Shnaider in the French Open quarter-finals where she was cruising to a win and completely fell apart to lose in three sets. The Australian Open final earlier this year showed a similar pattern where she lost from 3-0 up in the decider. Having said that, Sabalenka is a fierce competitor and has always come back well after setbacks.

The World No. 1 plays well on the grass surface and has added nuances to her game to succeed as she can hit drop shots and volleys with comfortable ease now. The Belarussian is a favourite for the title at SW19 yet again this season and if she can keep a control over her emotions in the tough moments, she can definitely go all the way this year.

Iga Swiatek

The defending champion Iga Swiatek is another huge contender for the title this year.

Swiatek was a surprise winner last year as she was never really considered a top grass courter but she defied her critics and won the title in emphatic fashion, defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets, without dropping a game.

Swiatek has struggled for form since the Cincinnati Open in August 2025 which she won, her only WTA title until now. She lost in the Australian Open quarter-finals and then suffered a shock fourth-round exit at the French Open. Swiatek has also gone through a coaching change ahead of the clay swing to improve her situation but the results haven’t shown up yet.

The former World No. 1 is a tricky opponent though. On her day, she is capable of beating anyone and she is the only active tennis player who hasn’t lost a Single Grand Slam final she has contested. The six-times grand slam champion cannot be underestimated and has the experience of going through a big competition multiple times already.

We believe that Wimbledon could be a tournament where the Pole can turn around her inconsistent form, go deep in the tournament and even defend her title successfully.

Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina also goes into this year’s Wimbledon as a strong favourite. Already having won her second grand slam title, the Australian Open this year, the former Wimbledon champion could go all the way this season.

Although Rybakina is coming into this tournament on the back of some poor performances, she started the season really well. After the Slam win in Australia, Rybakina reached the final at Indian Wells and the semi-finals at the Miami Open, both of which she lost to the World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka. She also reached her best career ranking of World No.2,

Since the clay swing, Rybakina’s form has suffered but then clay hasn’t been her favourite surface. However, recent losses on grass at the HSBC Championships and the Berlin Championships could be concerning for the tall Kazakh. She is a former champion though and knows how to navigate the draw in big tournaments.

If Rybakina can recapture her form from the beginning of the year and get her serve going, she would be a very challenging opponent for any top player and could probably add a second Wimbledon crown to her glittering collection.

Mirra Andreeva

Mirra Andreeva recently fulfilled the promise of becoming a grand slam champion when she captured her first slam title at the French Open this year.

Andreeva came of age after her 2024 Wimbledon debut at 16-years-old when she reached the fourth round and grabbed the attention of the tennis world. Under the tutelage of former grand slam champion, Conchita Martinez, Andreeva has improved by leaps and bounds in the last two years, winning multiple WTA 1000 titles and finally a first grand slam title at Roland Garros after coming close a few times.

Last year, she even reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals – her best finish in the tournament so far. The Russian teenager has the ability and the mentality to defeat any top opponent and has a mean game on grass. Therefore, Andreeva is another favourite for the Wimbledon title.

Elina Svitolina

Elina Svitolina has had one of the best seasons on the WTA Tour this year. The 31-year-old started the year by reaching the Australian Open semi-finals. She followed it up with a final appearance at the Dubai Tennis Championships, Semi-finals at Indian Wells, winning the WTA 1000 Italian Open and quarter-finals at the French Open. She also reached the quarter-final of the Berlin Championships and is currently playing in the quarter-finals at the Bad Homburg Open.

Svitolina has previously reached the 2023 Wimbledon semi-finals right after coming back from her maternity break. She also broke into the Top 10 WTA rankings this year with her incredibly consistent performances. While she hasn’t beaten many top-ranked players this year, Svitolina is definitely a dark horse for the Wimbledon title.
The Ukrainian has definitely improved a lot in the last few months and winning a WTA 1000 title recently will massively boost her confidence. Equipped with a decent game on grass and the experience of navigating big tournaments, Svitolina could be a surprise winner at the Wimbledon Championships this year.
