A spot in the Grand Final up for grabs as MI take on GG
After almost a month of action in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, we are down to the final three teams and the final two games as the Playoffs kick off. Kicking things off in the Playoffs will be the Eliminator which has Mumbai Indians taking on Gujarat Giants.
Ahead of the WPL 2025 Eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants, here’s our match preview and predictions.
Mumbai’s loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their final league game meant that they were unable to finish the league stage at the top of the table which means the inaugural WPL champions will have to battle it out through the Eliminator. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side have had Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Kaur up top doing the bulk of the scoring with the bat while its been Matthews, Sciver-Brunt and Shabnim Ismail amongst the wickets with Amelia Kerr being key for the Mumbai squad as well in the middle orders.
The Gujarat squad meanwhile found form late in the tournament to make the playoffs with Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol like the Mumbai team, being the heavy lifting up at the top of the order while Deandra Dottin and Phoebe Litchfield have chipped in when required. The explosive Bharti Fulmali came to form just before the Playoffs which is something the Giants will be happy with. With the ball, its been Dottin, Kashvee Gautam and Tanuja Kanwar as the main wicket takers while Gardner has plenty of other options in herself, Meghna Singh and young and impressive Priya Mishra.
The Brabourne strip is one which is a high-scoring ground with some assistance for the spinners and while the Giants might be finding form just at the right time, the Mumbai Indians are a stronger overall squad with plenty of experience and head into the Eliminator as the favourites.
Fantasy XI: Beth Mooney, Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, Deandra Dottin, Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Shabnim Ismail, Sajeevan Sajana, Kashvee Gautam
Venue: Brabourne Cricket Stadium, Mumbai
