Match 15 of the Women’s Premier League will play host to the UP Warriorz and the Gujarat Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on 3rd March 2025.
After winning back-to-back games against the Delhi Capitals and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the UP Warriorz were humbled by a clinical Mumbai Indians side in Match 11 at the Chinnaswamy. Apart from Grace Harris getting some much needed runs and a solid 33 from Dinesh Vrinda, there weren’t any positives to take home for the UP Warriorz.
The Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, are coming into this contest having beaten RCB – that too quite comfortably – in Match 12. Captain Ashleigh Gardner led from the front, scoring 58 runs off 31 balls as well bowling a tight spell of 22-1 from her four overs. Besides, the Indian duo of Kashvee Gautam and Tanuja Kanwar also bowled beautifully to restrict RCB to a modest 125-7.
UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants last faced each other in Match 3 at the Kotambi Stadium where GG registered a comfortable 6-wicket victory thanks to key contributions from captain Gardner (52 & 2-39), Deandra Dottin (33* & 2-34) and Priya Mishra (3-25).
Looking ahead to this first game at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, historical evidence suggests that the pitches here tend to offer more assistance to seamers while offering true value for shotmakers at the same time. Moreover, it’s also not clear how much dew will come into play. Based on home advantage, I’ll go with UP Warriorz for this encounter between two closely matched sides.
