WPL 2025 Match 1 | Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Preview and Predictions

The opening fixture of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season is set to be played on February 14 between the Gujarat Giants and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, Gujarat.

For the season opener, here are our preview and predictions.

Women’s Premier League 2025 Match 1 | Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru I 19:30 IST, February 14

The Gujarat Giants have bolstered their ranks with some new signings and look strong and balanced on paper, while the RCB too have added some squad players.

Captained by Aussie opener Beth Mooney, the Giants would want to start with a bang, though finding the right balance in a team with new players will be difficult. As for the reigning WPL champions, they will most likely field the same side that won the final last year and have an advantage as the players already understand their roles.

The pitch at the Kotambi Stadium favours the spinners, and both sides boast some quality ones. We expect this to be a low-scoring encounter, which the Royal Challengers should win if they bat second.

Fantasy XI: Laura Wolvaardt, Smriti Mandhana (c), Beth Mooney (wk), Ellyse Perry, Deandra Dottin, Richa Ghosh, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham, Kim Garth, Shreyanka Patil, Renuka Singh

Venue: Vadodara, Gujarat
Winners Prediction: Royal Challengers Bengaluru
