Day 19 of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup witnessed two Super Eight matches, the first being between the West Indies and England, while the second saw India take on Afghanistan.
Men’s T20 WC 2024 Match 42: England v West Indies
Despite the West Indies’ brilliant Group Stage performances, they weren’t able to defeat England in their first Super Eight clash.
The co-hosts batted first in this contest and made a competitive score of 180. Despite Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran reaching the 30-run mark, the Windies were left needing a good hand from someone lower down the order. Captain Rovman Powell provided just that as he made 36 in 17 balls and took on Liam Livingstone, scoring three sixes in a single over of his.
England, who boast an explosive batting lineup, didn’t get off to the most blistering of starts and found themselves 84/2 in the 11th over. However, Jonny Bairstow (48 off 26) and Phil Salt (87 off 47) turned it on after that to complete the run chase with 15 balls to spare.
First innings: 180/4 (West Indies in 20 overs)
Second innings: 181/2 (England in 17.3 overs)

Men’s T20 WC 2024 Match 42: India v Afghanistan
India completed a comfortable victory in their first game of the Super Eight stage, beating Afghanistan by 47 runs in the end. Batting first, the Men in Blue didn’t see the best of starts, with Rohit Sharma (8 off 13) and Virat Kohli’s (24 off 24) poor form in this competition continuing. It was Suryakumar Yadav’s standout innings of 53 from 28 balls, along with Hardik Pandya’s 32 off 24, that helped India attain a competitive total.
With the ball, Rahul Dravid’s men were brilliant from the get-go. Jasprit Bumrah delivered in the powerplay and finished with standout figures of 3/7 from his quota of four overs. The best Afghani batter was Azmatullah Omarzai in the middle phase of the innings, during which he scored 26 off 20.
First innings: India 181/8 in 20 overs
Second innings: Afghanistan 134/10 in 20 overs
