AS Roma are facing a daunting task as they face Manchester United in the second leg of the Europa League semifinal at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday.
The Red Devils hold a clear advantage following their 6-2 rampaging over AS Roma in the first leg at the Old Trafford. Roma did enjoy the luxury of having two away goals, but the 4-goal margin will stand in their way.
The Italian side started the last match on a bright note and even hit back with a 2-1 lead but a second half destruction by Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side took the game away from them.
United’s match against Liverpool had to be postponed for fan interruption and the players will now come to the game with some much-needed rest.
Roma manager Paulo Fonseca will be leaving his position at the end of this season and the Italian club have already announced José Mourinho as his successor. Although Fonseca’s plan has already been scuppered by United in the first leg, in football, there is always a chance.
Roma’s defeat was marred by a number of injuries as Pau López, Jordan Veretout and Leonardo Spinazzola had to be subbed off for their injury problems in the first half. Veretout is unlikely to be fit for the second leg while López has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Predicted Lineup – Antonio Mirante (GK); Ibañez, Chris Smalling, Gianluca Mancini; Bruno Peres, Bryan Cristante, Gonzalo Villar, Rick Karsdorp; Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Lorenzo Pellegrini; Edin Džeko
Solskjær doesn’t have any new injury concerns and could provide some game time to the fringe players. The likes of Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles could be unleashed in a bid to keep some of his players fresh for the final showdown.
Predicted Lineup – David de Gea; Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelöf, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka; Paul Pogba, Nemanja Mati?, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood
