Atlético Madrid rope in WhaleFin as shirt sponsor

The Spanish club have announced the cryptocurrency trading platform as shirt sponsor.

LaLiga side Atlético de Madrid have announced cryptocurrency exchange platform WhaleFin as their new principal shirt sponsor. The five-year deal is reported to be worth €40 million a year. The deal will see WhaleFin replace Plus500 as the main shirt sponsor from the 2022/23 season onwards. Plus500 has been with Atlético de Madrid since 2015, and its current deal, which expires in June 2022, will not be renewed.

Amber Group’s brand WhaleFin was founded in 2017 and is based out of Hong Kong. WhaleFin was valued at over €2.8 billion following a valuation in March 2021.

Aside from bringing WhaleFin onboard, the Spanish club have a busy summer ahead when it comes to sponsorship deals. Atlético are reported to be in talks with Hyundai to extend their sleeve sponsorship, while their partnership with Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group, which has naming rights to the Spanish club’s home ground, is also set to expire in June 2022.
