Chelsea Football Club have teamed up with information services provider Signify Group to tackle online abuse.
The long-term partnership, focusing on the club’s women’s division (Chelsea Women), will leverage Signify’s multi-lingual Threat Matrix service to monitor targeted abuse aimed at Blues players, coaches, and key staff and respond to it accordingly, including escalation to the authorities if needed.
On the partnership, a Chelsea Women spokesperson said the following:
“The welfare of our players, coaches and staff is of the utmost importance to Chelsea FC Women. By working with Signify Group, we are taking proactive steps to further address online abuse and threats, ensuring our players, staff and the wider Chelsea Women’s family can focus on what matters most – competing at the highest level on the pitch.”
Jonathan Hirshler, CEO of Signify Group, added:
“Online abuse is one of the most pressing challenges in modern sport, and as the profile of women’s sport grows exponentially, sadly, online abuse follows. We applaud Chelsea Women’s leadership in this space and are delighted to support their commitment to creating a safer environment for everyone associated with women’s football across the club.”
