The Indian athletes had a superb outing on Day 7 of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. While the five boxers ensured a medal by reaching the semi-finals of their respective categories, Murali Sreeshankar clinched a silver medal in the Men’s Long Jump. However, the biggest news arrived in Para Athletics, where India achieved a double podium in the Men’s 100m T47 category, with Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath winning gold and silver, respectively.

Elsewhere, Kate O’Connor of Northern Ireland won her country’s first CWG gold after a hiatus of 40 years, which she clinched in the Women’s Heptathlon. Canada’s Josh Liendo broke the CWG record in the Men’s 100 m butterfly with a time of 50.52 seconds. 

Here, we look at how things unfolded for India on Day 7 of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

India at CWG 2026 — Day 7 | Weightlifting

Women’s 77kg: Sanjana crashed out early in the competition as she failed to register a single successful attempt in the snatch, failing all three attempts at 94 kg, and was eliminated before the clean and jerk.

Men’s Shot Put Qualifying: Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill qualified for the Men’s Shot Put final with throws of 20.14m and 19.95m. Even though Samardeep didn’t meet the 20m qualification mark, he qualified by finishing fifth on the leaderboard.

Men’s 200m Heats: Indian sprinter Animesh Kujur ran a season-best of 20.46 seconds and won his heat to qualify for the Men’s 200m semi-finals.

Men’s Long Jump Final: Murali Sreeshankar repeated his feat from Birmingham 2022, bagging his second CWG silver with a jump of 8.09 metres. Lokesh Sathyanathan ended in fifth place, with Tajay Gayle of Jamaica winning the gold with an 8.15m effort.

Women’s Shot Put Final: Manpreet Kaur finished the competition in fourth place with a throw of 17.49 metres. She missed the bronze by a whisker as she fouled on her final throw and couldn’t better the 17.87m throw that won the bronze.

Women’s 3000m Steeplechase Final: Parul Chaudhary disappointed with a fifth-place finish in the Women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:26.75s, which is 14 seconds slower than her personal best.

Men’s 400m Hurdles Heats: Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh K. Tamilarasan both qualified for the 400m hurdles final as the fastest losers. Santhosh clocked 49.51s, while Yashas recorded a time of 49.65s.

India at CWG 2026 — Day 7 | Para Athletics

Men’s Discus Throw F42–44/F61–64: Sagar Thayat (51.79m) and Devender Kumar (48.20m) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, after the final round of the Men’s Discus Throw in the F42–44/F61–64 category.

Men’s 100m T47: India achieved a stunning double podium finish in the Men’s 100m T47 category, with Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath winning gold and silver, respectively. Gavit set a Games record with a 10.71-second sprint, while Mohammed Basil clocked 10.83 seconds.

Men’s 200m Freestyle Heats: Sajan Prakash and Aneesh Gowda failed to qualify for the 200m freestyle final. Prakash finished fifth in his heat, clocking 1:51.99s, while Gowda finished seventh in his heat with a time of 1:51.64s.

Men’s 1500m Freestyle Final: Aryan Nehra finished eighth in the Men’s 1500m freestyle final, clocking a time of 15:36.25s.

India at CWG 2026 — Day 7 | Para Swimming

Men’s 50m Freestyle S7 Heats: Suyash Narayan Jadhav and Chaitanya Vishwas Kulkarni saw their Men’s 50m Freestyle S7 Heats campaigns come to an end. Kulkarni finished fourth with 32.77 seconds, while Jadhav clocked 35.35 seconds, both failing to qualify for the final.

India at CWG 2026 — Day 7 | Boxing

Women’s 51kg: Sakshi Chaudhary boxed into the semi-finals with a dominant victory over Caitlyn Fryers of Northern Ireland. Chaudhary won the bout 5–0 by unanimous decision, ensuring India of a medal in the Women’s 51kg category.

Women’s 57kg: Olympian Jaismine Lamboria capped off a superb outing for the boxers by reaching the semi-finals with a 4–1 win against England’s Elise Glynn.

Women’s 70kg: Arundhati Choudhary also entered the semi-finals with a 3–1 split-decision win over New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson.

Men’s 60kg: Sachin Siwach got the better of Botswana’s Treasure Moremi in a one-sided encounter to enter the semis. He won the bout 5–0 by unanimous decision.

Men’s 80kg: Ankush Panghal ensured another medal for India with a 5–0 victory over Seychelles’ Jade Micock in the Men’s 80kg category to move into the semi-finals.

Men’s +90kg: Narender Berwal had a close encounter against Samoa’s Michael Seko and narrowly won the bout 3–2 by split decision to progress to the semi-finals.

India at CWG 2026 — Day 7 | Lawn Bowls 

Men’s Pair Sectional Play Section B, Round 2: Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar won their second straight match of the Pair Sectional Play, winning 2–0 (5–3, 6–3) against Namibia’s Christo Steenkamp and Waylon Wentzel.

Women’s Singles Sectional Play Section C, Round 2: After losing her Round 1 match, Nayanmoni Saikia made a fabulous comeback in the Singles Sectional Play Round 2 with a win over Caroline Whitehead from the Isle of Man, winning 2–0 (11–2, 7–4).
