George Russell finds form to take pole in Barcelona
After a couple of rough weekends, Mercedes’ George Russell finally found form and some luck going his way as Russell picked up pole for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix 2026. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton continued to showcase his strong run of form with a stunning Q3 to start on the front row with Russell while championship leader Kimi Antonelli could manage on a third place start. It was mixed fortunes for Ferrari though, as Charles Leclerc had a Saturday to forget as he crashed out in Q3 and will start P10.
If you missed the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix 2026 qualifying session, here’s a quick recap.
William’s Carlos Sainz put the quickest time on the board early on with a 1:18.107 as the back runners were the first on the track. The two Haases slotted behind him ahead of Alex Albon, Valtteri Bottas and the two Aston Martins.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was the first front runner to put up a time as he shot to the top of the table with a 1:16.352s before Charles Leclerc went fastest with a 1:15.964s while championships leader Kimi Antonelli was 0.013s slower than Leclerc. Leclerc’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton dislodged him from the top with a stunning 1:15.625s, the fastest time following the completion of the first runs from all the teams.
As the session drew to an end, it was the usual suspects in the drop zone with both Aston Martins, the two Cadillacs, Alex Albon, Esteban Ocon missing out on making it to Q2.
