FIFA Club World Cup 2025 | Round of 16: Inter Miami vs Paris Saint-Germain | Preview and Predictions

This Round of 16 encounter of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be played between American underdogs Inter Miami and current European champions Paris Saint-Germain on June 29 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta.

Here’s our preview and prediction for the Round of 16 match between Inter Miami and Paris Saint-Germain at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025:

FIFA Club World Cup 2025 | Round of 16: Inter Miami vs Paris Saint-Germain | 21:30 IST, June 29

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 has some mouth-watering clashes in store for us, and the match between Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and former PSG man Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami is definitely one of the most appealing.

Inter Miami are the only Major League Soccer club left in the competition, as their fellow American sides Los Angeles FC and the Seattle Sounders limped out in the group stages with only one point between them.

The Florida-based team qualified as the second-best team from Group A, with draws against Al Ahly and Palmeiras and a crucial 2-1 win over Porto enabling them to qualify behind Brazilian side Palmeiras.

However, if Inter Miami’s Club World Cup journey is to end at the Round of 16 stage — with PSG being the outright favourites to progress — they’ll want to give a decent account of themselves against the current European champions.

The current Inter Miami side has several veteran superstars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets in their ranks, and should pose a decent threat going forward, having netted twice in each of their games against Porto and Palmeiras.

Their opponents this Sunday – Paris Saint-Germain – started the tournament the same way they ended their UEFA Champions League campaign: by firing four past La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

However, their surprise defeat at the hands of Botafogo has to be one of the upsets of the tournament so far — their failure to score against the Brazilian club was the first time they had been shut out since losing 1-0 to Liverpool in March.

That said, PSG remain the favourites to win the tournament and should be among the goals again when facing a suspect and injury-hit Miami defence. Besides, now into the knockout rounds, PSG are expected to find another gear, with a potential quarter-final clash against either Flamengo or Bayern Munich looming.

In terms of team news, PSG have been operating without their talisman Ousmane Dembélé due to an injury to his left quadriceps muscle. However, the Frenchman has returned to training and could make his tournament debut as early as this Sunday. Inter Miami, on the other hand, are doubtful over defender Ian Fray’s availability, who has an adductor injury, while Drake Callender and Gonzalo Luján are likely to remain sidelined.

Looking ahead to this fixture, Inter Miami are unbeaten in six matches across all competitions, scoring 16 goals during this period. However, it is unlikely to trouble their young, quick, energetic, and dynamic counterparts this Sunday.

This could sound disparaging to all those underdog story lovers, however, this tie could really get ugly, provided PSG can snap out of their two-game malaise. The European champions have looked a shadow of the team that humbled Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich.

However, Inter Miami have also shipped a staggering 29 goals in their last 13 games in all competitions, whereas PSG have scored 3+ goals in five of their last seven games. Thus, all signs point towards an emphatic Paris Saint-Germain victory this Sunday.

Score Prediction: Inter Miami 1-5 Paris Saint-Germain
Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta
