Day 10 of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup saw just one game played: the clash between Pakistan and Canada in New York
Pakistan managed to win their first match of this year’s T20 World Cup as they beat Canada by seven wickets. Like in their match against India, the Men in Green were brilliant with the ball, with Mohammad Amir being the pick of the bowlers for his 2/13 in four overs.
Canada’s only ray of hope was opener Aaron Johnson, who scored 52 in 44 balls. With no other significant contributions throughout the batting card, the team fizzled out for a meagre score of 106.
After a poor chase from Pakistan against India, where they needed a measured approach, a more sensible style of batting was on display this time round from the main men Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, who scored 53 and 33, respectively, to take their team over the line.
Pakistan are now third, two points behind the USA in second, who play India on Wednesday. Canada, meanwhile, are fourth, and with India to play in their last encounter, their qualification to the Super Eights seems unlikely.
First innings: Canada 106/7 in 20 overs
Second innings: Pakistan 107/3 in 17.3 overs
