England take on the up-and-coming Bangla Tigresses in Match 8 of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Both teams picked up big wins in their respective openers, with England demolishing South Africa and Bangladesh stunning fellow Subcontinent outfit Pakistan.
For this game, here we present our preview and predictions.
England, one of the tournament favourites along with Australia and India, kicked off their World Cup campaign in style against South Africa.
The English bowlers ran riot to wrap up South Africa for 69 before breezing to a ten-wicket win. Linsey Smith’s slow left-arm bowling put the Proteas batters in a choke hold, before other slow bowlers Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean finished the job. All in all, it was a clinical bowling performance by England, and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will expect a similar performance against Bangladesh.
With the bat, there was not much on the board to chase and Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont stuck to sensible batting to take England home without losing a wicket.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, kicked off their World Cup campaign with a stellar bowling performance to take down Pakistan.
The young opening duo of Marufa Akter and Nishita Akter Nishi gave the Tigresses the perfect start before their spinners bundled out the opponents for a low score. Shorna Akter was impressive, not only chipping in with wickets but also being economical, while the experienced duo of Nahida Akter and Fahima Khatun also had strong outings.
Chasing a modest total, Bangladesh did have a few hiccups, with two of their most experienced batters, Sharmin Akhter and Nigar Sultana, failing to convert their starts, but a fighting fifty from Rubya Haider helped the team to a seven-wicket win.
The Guwahati pitch tends to assist the spinners. The slow wicket will work in favour of both teams. While conditions will be similar to home for Bangladesh, England are our favourites to take the win in this encounter given the firepower at their disposal.
