IPL 2025 | Match 12: MI vs KKR | Preview and Predictions

Match 12 of the 2025 Indian Premier League season brings us a clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 31.

For the game, here are our preview and predictions.

Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 12: Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders | 19:30 IST, March 31

The Knight Riders come into this game after finally getting points on the board, having lost their season opener. Most of their core players back in the squad, though they are yet to showcase their ability to make do without former captain Shreyas Iyer, who’s now leading the Punjab Kings. The absence of Iyer’s experience is being keenly felt by the team’s middle order, which looks prone to collapse on the back of strong starts. This is something Ajinkya Rahane and Co need to look into.

KKR’s new opener Quinton de Kock found some form against the Rajasthan Royals in their previous game, while Sunil Narine and Rahane looked dangerous in the first game. The middle order, boasting the likes of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh, will again be tested by MI.

Another concern for KKR is their Indian bowling lineup, especially the pace part of it, which lacks experience and has failed to threaten thus far. This has put more pressure on KKR’s leading spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. Rahane does have a pace option in Andre Russell. Even though the Jamaican all-rounder is yet to roll his arm this season, he boasts a good track record against MI.

Speaking of MI, their starred top order of Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, and Will Jacks has failed to get going and struggled against the spinners of the Chennai Super Kings, something KKR will keep in mind. One positive for MI, though, will be their young left-arm spinner Vignesh Puthur, who is proving more than capable of operating at the highest level.

The KKR clash will be MI’s first home game at the Wankhede this year and they’ll want to have a strong outing. The venue is known for tons of runs with some assistance for the spinners. Given the power-hitting and spinners in their arsenal, the defending champions hold a slight edge for this encounter.

Fantasy XI: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana, Trent Boult

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
Winners Prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders
