IPL 2025 | Match 23: GT vs RR | Preview and Predictions

Match 23 of the 2025 Indian Premier League season brings us a clash between the Gujarat Titans and the Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 9.

For the game, here are our preview and predictions.

Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 23: Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals | 19:30 IST, April 9

The Titans made it three wins in a row last time out with a win over the SunRisers Hyderabad, staying at the top of the table. Slowly, they have been slowly off all the boxes, with their batting and bowling departments coming together nicely.

The GT top order of Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler has been doing the bulk of the scoring, with Sherfane Rutherford stepping up with explosive cameos whenever needed. Washington Sundar was promoted up the order for the game against SRH after the Titans found themselves in a spot of bother at 16/2, and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, scoring 49 off 29 to rebuild the innings alongside Gill and demonstrating his prowess. With the likes of Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, and Rashid Khan lower down the order, the Titans boast a lot of firepower in their batting lineup.

With the ball, GT have been bolstered by a rejuvenated Mohammed Siraj, who looks like someone out to prove a point, having been snubbed from India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad. He has been providing the Titans with crucial early breakthroughs while remaining economical. He is supported well by Prasidh Krishna and Ishant Sharma, and while Rashid Khan might not have had the best of starts with the ball, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore and Sundar have been shouldering the spin duties ably.

On the other hand, the Royals, after losing their opening two games, have bounced back with wins over the Chennai Super Kings and the Punjab Kings. With Sanju Samson back as captain, Riyan Parag has been freed up. The talented Yashasvi Jaiswal found runs in the last game, with the likes of Samson, Nitish Rana, and Shimron Hetmyer providing further depth to RR’s batting.

Their bowling has been a concern, however. Star fast bowler Jofra Archer finally got the new ball talking against PBKS, while Sandeep Sharma and Maheesh Theekshana have been the run-stoppers in the middle, though wickets remain hard to come by, with RR having picked up a total of 23 wickets out of the possible 40.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has brought about a lot of runs this season already, so we should be in for another run fest, with the home team as our favourites for the encounter given their red-hot form.

Fantasy XI: Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Nitish Rana, Shimron Hetmyer, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Jofra Archer

Venue: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
Winners Prediction: Gujarat Titans
