IPL 2025 | Match 51: GT vs SRH | Preview and Predictions

Match 51 of the 2025 Indian Premier League season brings us to an encounter between the Gujarat Titans and the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 2.

For the game, here are our preview and predictions.

Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 51: Gujarat Titans vs SunRisers Hyderabad | 19:30 IST, May 2

The Titans have been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL this season. With their top-order batting in prime form, GT have been able to post big totals and defend them with ease. However, their middle-order batting is a concern—one they need to address if they are to go all the way.

Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler have been impressive with the bat. As for the bowlers, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have been lethal in attack, with Rashid Khan and Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore providing the spin options.

That said, GT lost their last game at the hands of the Rajasthan Royals. Batting well, they had put up a total of 209/4, with captain Gill scoring the most runs (84 off 50), supported ably by Buttler (50* off 26). It looked like a winnable total, until the RR openers came into bat.

Royals openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi clobbered the GT bowlers to all parts of the ground from the word go. The barely-a-teenager went to score an incredible 101 off 38 alongside Jaiswal, who scored 70* off 40, ensuring an easy victory for their side. RR chased the mammoth total in only 15.5 overs with eight wickets in hand. Only Rashid Khan (1/24 in four overs) returned with respectable figures for the Titans with the ball.

The SunRisers, on the other hand, managed to win a game after a string of defeats last time out. Last year’s runners-up have been a shadow of themselves. Despite being armed with one of the deadliest top-order batting lineups—boasting Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Nitish Reddy—SRH have failed to get going except for one or two occasions this season. In terms of bowling, barring captain Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel, the team have struggled to find breakthroughs.

However, their bowling came through against the Chennai Super Kings, restricting them to a total of 154. Patel was the star of the show with figures of 4/28 in four overs. SRH have only themselves to blame for making the chase difficult in the second innings—they lost their openers cheaply before Ishan Kishan (44 off 34) and Kamindu Mendis (32 off 22) ensured the win with five wickets in hand.

Looking at the two teams for this game, GT definitely have the edge with a more confident, in-form, and balanced side, while SRH have struggled in every department. Having said that, SRH do have the firepower to hurt anyone on their day. The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium isn’t easy to bat on, and given it’s their home turf, we back the 2022 IPL winners to take the win here.
