Match 26 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season brings us a mouth-watering clash between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and a Delhi Capitals (DC) side who’ll look to arrest the hosts’ unbeaten run at home this season.

Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 26: Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Delhi Capitals | 15:30 IST, 18 April

The Royal Challengers have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, having won four out of five matches and sitting comfortably at the top of the points table. Their victories have been convincing, with the four wins by six wickets, 43 runs, 18 runs, and five wickets (in that order) bisected by a defeat in a close contest against the Rajasthan Royals. Notably, RCB remain unbeaten at home, with Chinnaswamy having been a strong fortress this season.

In their previous match against the Lucknow Super Giants, RCB delivered a clinical all-round performance. They restricted LSG to 146 all out, led by Rasikh Salam (4/24) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/27). In response, they chased down the target comfortably, reaching 149/5 in just 15.1 overs. Virat Kohli (49 off 34) anchored the chase, while Rajat Patidar (27 off 13) provided momentum in the middle overs, ensuring a dominant finish.

From a season standpoint, Virat Kohli (228 runs, averaging 57 while striking at 158.33) has been the backbone of this batting line-up, consistently delivering impactful performances. He is well supported by captain Patidar (222 runs, striking at over 213), who has been explosive in the middle order.

On the bowling front, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (seven wickets at an economy rate of 8.70) and Krunal Pandya (seven wickets) have led the attack, providing both control and breakthroughs at crucial stages.

Besides, unlike previous campaigns, RCB have started well at home, having won all three games played here so far. With a strong core, depth across departments, and dominant home performances, they look like one of the most complete sides in the tournament. They will head into this contest with confidence and momentum firmly on their side.

The Capitals, on the other hand, have had a mixed start to the season, having won two and lost two so far. While they began strongly with back-to-back wins against LSG and MI (both by comfortable six-wicket margins), their campaign has dipped with two consecutive losses, with a comprehensive 23-run loss to CSK following a narrow one-run defeat to GT.

In their previous outing, DC conceded 212/2 with the ball, struggling badly as captain Axar Patel (1/39) and the rest of the attack failed to contain the flow of runs. In response, DC were bowled out for 189 despite Tristan Stubbs’ 60 (38) and Pathum Nissanka’s 41 (24). Their middle order lacked finishing power, and the chase slipped away due to lack of partnerships and control under pressure.

Statistically, Sameer Rizvi has been their standout batter with 166 runs in four matches, averaging 55.33, while Stubbs has contributed crucial runs in the middle order. Nissanka has provided solid starts, having scored 127 runs so far this season, but the team need their talisman KL Rahul to start contributing more consistently.

On the bowling front, T Natarajan (four wickets) and Lungi Ngidi (five wickets) have been the pick of the bowlers, but the unit has lacked consistent performers in both the batting and bowling departments.

Overall, the Delhi Capitals need a collective improvement across all departments to challenge stronger sides if they want to make the play-offs this season.

In terms of weather forecast and pitch report for this game, weather is expected to be partly cloudy with warm conditions throughout the day. There is a slight chance of light rain interruptions, but not significant enough to impact the game heavily. Given the small boundaries and flat pitches, the captain winning the toss should ideally opt to bowl first and chase.

RCB enter this match as the stronger side on paper, sitting comfortably near the top of the table with four wins in five matches and an impressive net run rate of 1.503. They are unbeaten at home and come off a dominant win over LSG.

DC, on the other hand, have struggled for consistency, having lost their last two matches and holding a lower net run rate of 0.322. While the Capitals do have match-winners in their ranks, RCB’s form, depth, and home advantage give them a clear edge in this contest.
