IPL 2026 | Match 31: SRH vs DC | Preview and Prediction
Match 31 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season will see two teams face off who are neck and neck with each other in the points table.
Several interesting subplots are set to emerge from the outcome of this game, as the winning side will make some breathing space between themselves and the rest of the teams below them.
For this game between SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Delhi Capitals (DC), here we present our preview and predictions.
IPL 2026 | Match 31: SunRisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals | 19:30, April 21
Despite this being a game between two sides closely placed in the league table, their respective approaches to winning a game are miles apart from each other.
While SunRisers Hyderabad have a penchant for brute force and the ferocious intent of sending every ball out of the park, the Delhi Capitals put a lot of emphasis on wicket conservation and steady consolidation.
While both of these methods have their set of merits and demerits, on a Hyderabad surface that is again expected to be a batting paradise, it might be the right time for the Capitals to start mulling over a change in their batting approach up the order.
For the SunRisers, Travis Head’s poor returns have not deterred them from unleashing mayhem on opposition bowling attacks whatsoever.
Abhishek Sharma has found the form that made him the No. 1-ranked batter in the world. Add in the stability and cautious aggression provided by stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan from No. 3, and we have the perfect platform for the likes of Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy to go bang-bang in the death overs. Klaasen, in particular, has been finding his range in recent matches, and that can only bode well for the fortunes of the Men in Orange.
For the Capitals, it has been a curious case of solving one problem only to run into another one, and this has the potential to derail their entire season.
While they’ve managed to solve their opening-pair problem, they’re now faced with the problem of an unsettled and unstable No. 3 slot. Karun Nair was brought in last game and failed miserably, Sameer Rizwi has tapered off after starting the season spectacularly, while Nitish Rana has been woefully out of form and very short on both runs and confidence.
DC’s weakness at No. 3 so far has been fairly compensated by their highly experienced and battle-hardened middle order. Axar Patel, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs have registered crucial knocks, with Miller finally burying the ghosts of the Gujarat Titans game by giving his side the win in the last over against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The bowling attacks of both sides have an exciting mix of young and experienced players. Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain from SRH and Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan from DC represent a rather intriguing contest between youthful exuberance and experience.
Both teams currently are on six points and are only separated by net run rate. The winning side here will take a huge advantage in the play-offs race, while the losing side will lose ground as teams up their gears in approaching the halfway mark of the season.
We believe that the SunRisers come into this game as marginal favourites over the Capitals for the win. Given that SRH have always scored above 200 whenever they have faced DC, they will fancy their chances to make another big score and suffocate them under the weight of the runs.
