IPL 2026 | Match 59: LSG vs CSK| Preview and Predictions

Match 53 of the 2026 Indian Premier League season will see a clash between Lucknow Super Giants and the Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium on 15th May.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 59: Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings | 19:30 IST, 15th May

This is a reverse fixture of the last game played between the two sides which CSK won. While CSK are sitting in fifth place and still very much in the reckoning for the play-off spots, LSG are already out of the competition, languishing at the bottom of the table.

Urvil Patel was the star of the show in the previous game as he scored the joint fastest fifty of the IPL with a half-century off 13 balls. Previously, Rajasthan Royal’s batter Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored the fastest IPL fifty in 13 balls  in 2023.

Batting first, LSG managed a 200+ score with the help of opener Jos Englis who top-scored with a blistering 85 off 33 balls. However, no one else supported him barring Shahbaz Ahmed (43* off 25 balls) and Himmat Singh (17 off 12 balls) down the order.

Jamie Overton was the pick of the bowlers for CSK with a spell of 36/3 from his four overs.

In response, CSK made a decent opening start with the in-form Sanju Samson (28 of 14 balls) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (42 off 28 balls) finally getting some runs under his belt. However, it was the explosive batting of Urvil Patel (65 off 23 balls) that took the game away from LSG. By the time he got out after the 9th over, CSK had already crossed a score of 120 and were looking set to chase it down comfortably. Even though they lost a couple of wickets, the damage had been done as they ended up winning by five wickets.

LSG’s problems this season have stemmed from inconsistent batting, especially from their two key overseas batters Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram. Captain Rishabh Pant hasn’t performed up to his usual top standards as well. While their bowling has also struggled with spinner Digvesh Rathi not having made much impact and the pacers going for a lot of runs except for Prince Yadav who has impressed massively this season.

CSK struggled at the beginning of the season but have turned around their form in surprising fashion. Without their maverick ex-captain MS Dhoni (out with injury), the Chennai franchise looked out of ideas. However, they have now won four out of their five games to still have a big chance for the play-offs. Their batting still looks a bit rusty but the dependency on Sanju Samson seems to have dissipated and other players are taking up the responsibility to pull them through matches. CSK’s bowling has looked more convincing with Anshul Kamboj, Jamie Overton and Mukesh Chaudhary providing the wicket-taking ability and Akeal Hossein and Noor Ahmad offering variety with their spin. Though their new signings and Shivam Dube have been underwhelming to say the least and if CSK has the ambition to make the cut for the play-offs and go all the way, there are still some things that need to click for them to compete for the title.

Coming to this match-up, since LSG are already out of the race for the play-offs, for them it’s solely a matter of pride, trying to win at home and finish the season on a positive note. CSK would be more desperate to win as a win would take them into the Top 4 and strengthen their chances while LSG could spoil their party.

Ekana has a batting friendly pitch but it’s not just a flat track but has something for the bowlers. If a bowler gets his line and length correct, this could be a competitive fixture. Looking at their form and intention to win at all costs, we believe CSK will go on to win this game as well.

Fantasy XI: Sanju Samson, Mitchell Marsh, Urvil Patel, Rishabh Pant (c) (wk), Nicholas Pooran, Dewald Brevis, Shahbaz Ahmad, Jamie Overton, Mohammed Shami, Noor Ahmad, Prince Yadav.

Venue: Ekana Stadium, Lucknow

Winner’s Prediction: Chennai Super Kings
