In Match 6 of the 2026 Indian Premier League season, two teams who kicked off their campaigns with defeats will be looking to get themselves on the points board, as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) host SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Eden Gardens.

Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 6: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad | 19:30 IST, April 2nd

The Kolkata Knight Riders are getting ready for their first home game of the season. The Ajinkya Rahane-led team are coming off a disappointing loss against the Mumbai Indians in their season opener.

KKR put up a par score in their first game, getting to 220, but it turned out to be around 20 runs short, as a slow end to an explosive batting performance eventually cost them dearly. KKR have chosen to start the season with Rahane at the top with the in-form Finn Allen, and both were in stellar form at the Wankhede, and the management will hope for more of the same.

Young Angkrish Raghuvanshi also had a strong start to the season with a well-paced half-century, while Rinku Singh provided the late fireworks. KKR will not be too worried about their batting, other than the fact that they slowed down a bit in the middle, something they will need to rectify, especially on batting-friendly tracks. Another cause for concern will be Rahane walking off the pitch with a limp, and KKR will hope that their captain is back and fit for the next game.

KKR’s bowling was expected to struggle, especially given the injuries suffered by the squad prior to the start of the season and having to make do with what they have. But to put it bluntly, their bowlers simply proved flat against the Mumbai Indians and showed no fight or glimpse of a spark that could trouble the opposition batters.

Varun Chakravarthy remains an invaluable asset to any team he plays for, but the Indian spinner has been leaking runs since the start of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and was taken to the cleaners by the MI batters, conceding 48 runs in his four overs without picking up any wickets. With an already depleted seam attack, KKR need Chakravarthy to step up and not only put a check on the runs, but provide breakthroughs as well.

Like KKR, SunRisers Hyderabad put up a just-about-par score in their game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but a poor bowling performance saw them suffer a six-wicket defeat. SRH got to 202, but in Bengaluru it was always going to be well below par once the RCB batters got going.

SRH’s batting performance was largely carried by their stand-in captain Ishan Kishan and a late cameo from Aniket Verma, with their star-studded batting line-up not firing as expected. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma both failed to get going, while Heinrich Klaasen fell to an umpiring howler that cut his promising innings short.

With Nitish Kumar Reddy at No. 4 and Klaasen at No. 5, the SunRisers don’t have a lot of experience after them, which means the depth in the batting line-up is lacking and there will be more pressure on the top order this season. Aniket Verma did impress with some big blows, helping SRH get over 200, but it wasn’t enough. On another batting-friendly wicket in Kolkata, Kishan will hope his top five batters do the bulk of the scoring again.

SRH’s bowling was not promising either. With no Pat Cummins, they are lacking in experience. While they will hope to have a better outing in Kolkata, without much international experience, or even IPL experience barring Jaydev Unadkat, the task will be cut out for the SRH bowlers.

Both teams showed in their respective opening games that they are batting-heavy sides suffering from less-experienced bowling attacks.

With two explosive batting units on an Eden Gardens track that has provided plenty of runs in the last few seasons, we should be in for a high-scoring encounter. Due to their spin twins, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, we believe the Knight Riders have the edge in this home encounter.

Fantasy XI: Finn Allen, Abhishek Sharma (c), Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine (vc), Harsh Dubey, Varun Chakravarthy

Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Winners Prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders
