Marta García wins F1 Academy 2023 title

Marta García has been crowned as the inaugural F1 Academy champion after the US race, which saw the Spaniard win the opening race, thereby securing her title.

The PREMA Racing driver has won seven races this season, winning the championship by 56 points, with ART Grand Prix’s Lena Bühler finishing second.

The first race in Austin saw García take the win over Abbi Pulling, with Bühler finishing on the podium. It was this win that secured the Spaniard’s title. The second race of the weekend saw MP Motorsport’s Hamda Al Qubaisi take the win from pole as she saw off Bühler and Rodin Carlin’s Jessica Edgar.

The final race saw Edgar take her maiden F1 Academy win, with Nerea Martí finishing second ahead of García, who signed off the season with a podium.

While Marta García won the Drivers’ Championship, it was her team PREMA Racing that finished first in the Constructors’ Standings, with MP Motorsport finishing eight points behind them and ahead of Rodin Carlin, ART Grand Prix and Campos Racing, in that order.

After her win, Marta García said:

[I’m feeling] really good, amazing, of course. When I won, when I crossed past the chequered flag, I didn’t really feel it, I don’t know why! But after that, during all the lap, I started even being a bit emotional, and then [thinking of] everything, like all of the hard work we’ve been doing this year with the team, all of the hard work during all of the years.

It’s great to obviously win the championship, being the first champion of F1 Academy as well, it feels amazing.
