Italy defeated the USA 3-0 in the women’s volleyball finals to clinch the gold in a one-sided encounter. Brazil took the bronze by beating Türkiye.

Another controversial incident hit the Paris Olympics when the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) ruled against American gymnast Jordan Chiles, who had won a bronze medal in the floor exercise final. According to CAS, the judging panel had improperly granted an inquiry that increased her score, moving her into the bronze position. This ruling means Chiles will have to return her medal, which will be awarded to Romania’s Ana Barbosu.

Meanwhile, the final ruling on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for being awarded the silver medal upon DQ has been deferred to August 13 by CAS.

Manu Bhaker (shooting) and PR Sreejesh (hockey) were the Indian flag bearers at the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony.

As the Paris 2024 Olympics drew to a close, the US finished first in the medals tally with 40 gold medals and a whopping 126 medals in total. China came second with 40 gold medals, with Japan third with 20 golds. India ended the Games 71st in the table.
