With the 2024/25 Premier League season reaching its halfway point, it’s time we take a look at some of the top performing Fantasy Premier League (FPL) assets from the season.
Nottingham Forest have been the surprise package of the season so far. Much of that can be attributed to the heroics of their 32-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, Matz Sels, who is currently leading the Golden Glove race with eight clean sheets, averaging 2.79 saves per 90′. With 85 points from 18 appearances, he has been the highest-scoring goalkeeper so far this season.
While Nuno Espírito Santo’s tactical setup has been impressive this season, it is Sels’ individual brilliance between the sticks that has bailed his team out of tricky situations. Thus, for Forest to maintain their impressive run, they’ll need their #1 to be at his absolute best for the remainder of the season.
Although Sean Dyche and Everton find themselves in another relegation scrape this season, one player who has done everything in his power to keep them afloat is England #1 Jordan Pickford. Despite the Toffees sitting in 16th with just three wins all season, the veteran goalkeeper remains in contention for the Golden Glove this season.
With Dyche’s team struggling for goals, Pickford’s heroics in goal mean Everton have only lost seven games all season, with him keeping seven clean sheets along the way. Thanks to his excellent shot-stopping ability, Pickford is the only keeper in the league to have saved two penalties this season.
With a £5m price tag and 83 points accrued so far, there are very few goalkeepers who can claim to have been better than Pickford this season.
Arsenal’s #1 and the 2023/24 season’s Golden Glove winner again finds himself in the running for major honours this season. Last season, David Raya ran away with the Golden Glove award with 16 clean sheets, three clear of second-placed Jordan Pickford. However, despite injuries and inconsistency from his backline throughout the first half of this season, the Spain international finds himself just one behind Sels in the race for the Golden Glove.
While Arsenal have the best defensive record in the league alongside Liverpool, constant changes to their backline due to injuries have seen the Spaniard saving the day with crucial saves at important junctures throughout the season.
If the last two seasons are anything to go by, Arsenal will only get better defensively as the season enters its business end, leaving Raya perfectly placed to claim his second Golden Glove in a row.
Player | Price | Matches | Saves per 90’ | Clean Sheets | Bonus Points | Total Points |
Sels | £4.8m | 19 | 2.79 | 8 | 7 | 85 |
Pickford | £5m | 18 | 3 | 7 | 10 | 83 |
Raya | £5.6m | 19 | 2.42 | 7 | 6 | 75 |
Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina hasn’t really put a foot wrong this season. The 28-year-old Nigerian has so far been the highest scoring defender in the game with 89 points. While solid defensively, Aina also looks to contribute on the other end with timely late runs into the opposition box, as evident from his goals against Brentford and West Ham United.
Aina’s sound tackling and good reading of the game have led to Forest keeping the most clean sheets this season. He has also accumulated 15 Bonus Points this season—the most by any defender.
Despite being the highest-priced defender in the game, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to deliver year in, year out. With Liverpool leading the Premier League title race by six points over Arsenal, the 26-year-old England international has been one of their most consistent players this season.
Although he has contributed with just one goal and four assists this season, which is largely down to a more conservative positioning in Arne Slot’s system, the Liverpool right-back has still created 12 big chances and has been managing 2.3 key passes per 90′ due to his technical brilliance.
As Real Madrid continue to monitor his situation, with contract talks with Liverpool still on the table, Alexander-Arnold will look to keep his foot on the pedal in order to secure that big contract regardless of wherever he may be come the start of next season.
With Arsenal threatening to score from set pieces almost every Gameweek, Gabriel Maghalhães is arguably their biggest threat—whenever fit, that is. Taking into account average points per game, only Alexander-Arnold has been performing better than him, though he is priced £0.8 million higher than the Brazilian.
Although the Gunners have struggled to keep their defenders fit this season, including Gabriel, in his 17 league appearances, the 27-year-old has three goals and two assists to his name to go along with six clean sheets.
With Arsenal playing most of their tougher away games during the first half of the season, one should expect Gabriel to rack up more goals and clean sheets during the second half of the season.
Following a wobbly start to the season, Newcastle United have slowly crept into the top-four conversation with four consecutive wins in December, keeping four clean sheets on the bounce. As a result, the £4.8m-priced Lewis Hall has jumped out as an exciting proposition for many FPL managers.
The 20-year-old left-back has already contributed with four assists this season along with seven clean sheets, while his defensive contributions, like 1.8 tackles per 90′ and 4.3 successful duels per game, have resulted in him accumulating nine Bonus Points so far this season.
Looking at Newcastle’s current form and upcoming fixtures, Hall should be one of the first names on any FPL manager’s team sheet.
The fact that two of the five defenders in this list are from Nottingham Forest is a testament to the great work being done by Nuno Espírito Santo at the City Ground.
The 27-year-old Serbia international is a constant threat in the air, as evident from his two goals and one assist. Had he not missed four other gilt-edged chances, he would be sitting alongside Ola Aina at the top.
However, it is not only Milenkovic’s aerial prowess in the final third that has come in handy for Forest this season. In defence, he has won an incredible 2.6 aerial duels per 90′, helping Forest keep the opposition attackers at bay in their own half.
Player | Price | Matches | Goals / Assists | Clean Sheets | Bonus Points | Total Points |
Aina | £5.2m | 18 | 2/0 | 8 | 15 | 89 |
Alexander-Arnold | £7.2m | 17 | 1/4 | 7 | 11 | 83 |
Gabriel | £6.4m | 17 | 3/2 | 6 | 7 | 81 |
Hall | £4.8m | 19 | 0/4 | 7 | 9 | 77 |
Milenkovic | £4.7m | 18 | 2/1 | 8 | 1 | 77 |
There’s no one touching Mohamed Salah in the Premier League at the moment. The Liverpool talisman is operating at a different level and has almost single-handedly been responsible for the Reds’ incredible performances during the first half of the season.
In just 18 league appearances, the 32-year-old has scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists, which means he has been involved in 67% of all Liverpool goals.
Although contract talks with the Merseyside club have stalled in recent months, if he continues to perform at this current rate, it’d be considered unwise if the Liverpool management were to let go of their star man.
Ever since leaving Manchester City for Chelsea, the 22-year-old has been a revelation. Having registered 22 goals and 11 assists last season, Cole Palmer has carried his scintillating form into the 2024/25 season. With 12 goals and seven assists, the England international is averaging one G/A every 90 minutes.
Vying for a top-four finish under new boss Enzo Maresca, Chelsea need their star man to carry on his excellent run till the end of the season. Apart from Salah, there are very few players operating at the same level as Palmer at the moment.
When Ivan Toney left the British shores for the Middle East, many wondered what the future would hold for Brentford. However, the rise of Bryan Mbuemo has meant the Bees have been doing just fine.
With 12 goals and two assists in 19 appearances, Mbuemo has filled Toney’s boots in no time. His ability to drop deep and contribute both in the build-up as well as defensively has further made the 25-year-old Cameroonian Brentford’s most-prized asset.
Priced at just £7.7 million, Mbuemo will remain one of the most-owned FPL assets till the end of the season.
With each passing year, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka keeps adding more to his game. Having enjoyed his most productive campaign last season with 16 goals and nine assists, the England international had been on course to shatter that record, having amassed five goals and 11 assists in just 16 appearances, before a hamstring injury sidelined the 23-year-old Hale End product for at least a couple of months.
And yet, the fact that Saka has already created 19 big chances and has been averaging 2.8 key passes per 90′ means he should be on every FPL manager’s watchlist as their first-choice replacement once he returns.
Liverpool are currently the most in-form team in Europe, and the fact that most of their players lead the FPL charts shouldn’t come as a surprise to many.
Following Alexander-Arnold and Salah, the third Liverpool asset to make this list is the Colombia international, Luis Díaz. After struggling to make an impact under Jürgen Klopp, the 27-year-old has seen his stock rise under his successor, Arne Slot.
Having amassed eight goals and five assists in 37 league appearances in Klopp’s last season, Díaz has already contributed with eight goals and three assists in 16 appearances this term. With Slot’s system more resolute in transition, it has meant less tracking back and more direct runs for Díaz.
Player | Price | Matches | Goals | Assists | Bonus Points | Total Points |
Salah | £13.6m | 18 | 17 | 13 | 35 | 202 |
Palmer | £11.4m | 19 | 12 | 7 | 23 | 143 |
Mbuemo | £7.7m | 19 | 12 | 2 | 17 | 117 |
Saka | £10.3m | 16 | 5 | 11 | 16 | 107 |
Díaz | £7.6m | 16 | 8 | 3 | 10 | 95 |
There isn’t a more in-form centre-forward in the Premier League at the moment than Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak. In December alone, the Swede scored eight goals and provided two assists; only Mohamed Salah boasts a better record.
The 25-year-old’s speed, technical ability, agility, and aerial prowess mean there’s very little opposition defenders can do when he’s on song. Having finished the 2023/24 season behind Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer in the Golden Boot race, with his current form and Newcastle’s upward trajectory, there’s every chance Isak beats the likes of Salah and Haaland to the Golden Boot come the end of this season.
Despite Wolves’ struggles, Matheus Cunha has been a standout player this season. While Wolves sit just a point above the relegation zone, Cunha’s impressive display throughout the first half of the season has been key to any positive outcome they have achieved and any hope they may have of survivial.
With his 10 goals and four assists, the 25-year-old has already attracted attention from some of the best clubs in Europe. With Wolves trying to improve under the leadership of new boss Vitor Pereira, Cunha remains a key cog in their machine.
It has been a long and hard season for Erling Haaland and Co. Trying to break their lacklustre run of form, nothing seems to be working for Pep Guardiola and his players. With just two wins in their last 14 games across all competitions, confidence is running low in the Sky Blue ranks.
While the Norway international scored 13 goals in his first nine games this season, in his last 10 PL appearances, he has only managed to score three goals and provide one assist.
With hopes of retaining their Premier League title all but gone, it would require a miraculous turnaround for the Cityzens to even make the Champions League. Goals, especially from their talismanic 24-year-old, are going to be key in helping them limit the damage.
Having enjoyed his most prolific season in front of goal last season with 14 goals, Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood is on course to shatter his previous best, already boasting 11 goals from 19 appearances this season. As the Tricky Trees try to keep their European aspirations alive, a lot will be riding on the form of their 33-year-old Kiwi centre-forward.
With Forest keeping things tight in both ends of the pitch, having scored just 26 goals and shipping just 19 on the other end, Wood is expected to score a good chunk of Bonus Points whenever he’s on the pitch. With 23 Bonus Points, he’s behind only Salah and Cunha in this aspect. Thus, at £6.7 million, he’s a must-have in every FPL manager’s team sheet.
Player | Price | Matches | Goals | Assists | Bonus Points | Total Points |
Isak | £9.2m | 17 | 12 | 4 | 20 | 112 |
Cunha | £7m | 19 | 10 | 4 | 25 | 111 |
Haaland | £14.8m | 19 | 14 | 1 | 17 | 110 |
Wood | £6.7m | 19 | 11 | 1 | 23 | 106 |
