In a repeat fixture of the previous match played between the two teams which Delhi Capitals won in the last over, UP Warriorz will be desperate for a win as they are yet to put any points on the board.
Women’s Premier League 2025 Match 8 | Group Stage | Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz I 19:30 IST, February 22nd
Delhi Capitals will play the reverse fixture against UP Warriorz on the 22nd Feb at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
As far as the Delhi Capitals are concerned, they will head into this one full of confidence having beaten the same opponents a few days back. Another huge positive for them is the return to form for captain Meg Lanning who was the top scorer with 69 runs off 49 balls and eased the chase for the Capitals.
UP Warriorz had set DC a total of 166/7 to chase with opener Kiran Navgire 51(27) and middle order player Chinelle Henry 33*(15) powering the Warriorz to a decent total. DC responded well though with a 65-runs opening partnership before Shafali Verma departed for 26 runs off 16 balls. DC lost a couple of quick wickets but Anabelle Sutherland and Marizann Kapp held fort to lead them to a penultimate ball win in the last over. Poor fielding effort from the Warriorz also contributed to the DC win.
However, this would be a fresh encounter and considering the Bengaluru pitch is a batting haven, the toss isn’t that important as teams can chase big totals on the Chinnaswamy pitch.
DC still looks like a more balanced side with in-form and better quality batters and bowlers in comparison to the Warriorz and therefore hold the edge. However, if we look back at their wins, both the games they won were really close encounters that could have gone either way, so the Capitals need to gear up as well.
Fantasy XI: Meg Lanning (c), Shafali Verma, Kiran Navgire, Deepti Sharma, Annabel Sutherland, Jemimah Rodrigues, Chinelle Henry, Sophie Eccleston, Sarah Bryce (wk), Marizann Kapp, Arundhati Reddy.
Winner’s Prediction: Delhi Capitals
Venue: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
