WPL 2026 | Match 4: DC vs GG | Preview and Predictions

Back-to-back games for the Delhi Capitals who will play their second match of the 2026 WPL against the Gujarat Giants at Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai in Match 4 of the Women’s Premier League.

Here is our Preview and Prediction for the game.

Women’s Premier League 2026 | Match 4: Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Giants | 19:30 IST, 11 January 2026

Delhi Capitals opening game of the 2026 WPL didn’t go as per plan as they suffered a heavy defeat to the Mumbai Indians. Having put MI into bat, the DC bowlers conceded a mammoth total of 195/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur (74 not out off 42 balls) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (70 off 46 balls) played the defining partnership to take Mumbai off to a huge total. Nicola Carey’s late surge (21 runs off 12 balls) also helped MI’s cause. Most of the DC Bowlers got thrashed all over the park except for young Nandani Sharma who marked her WPL debut with a superb bowling spell of 2/26 from three overs.

While chasing the huge total, the DC batters never got going and ended up losing too many wickets in the power play. Having lost Shafali Verma, Laura Wolvaardt and captain Jemimah Rodrigues cheaply, DC could never recover and barring Chinelle Henry (56 off 33 balls), no one from the Capitals camp could stay long enough to impact the game. DC ended up falling short by 50 runs as their innings folded for a paltry 145.

Nicola Carey and Amelia Kerr both picked up three wickets each to send the Capitals’ batters packing.

As for their upcoming opponents, the Gujarat Giants had a winning start to their WPL campaign against the UP Warriorz. Batting first, GG put up a massive 207/4 in their 20 overs. Kiwi veteran Sophie Devine gave them a blazing start with 38 off 20 balls. Anushka Sharma (44 off 30 balls) then got together with captain Ashleigh Gardner (65 off 41 balls) to propel the Giants towards a huge total and then Georgia Wareham upped the ante with an incredible cameo (27 not out off 10 balls) to put a winning total on the board.

The UP Warriorz’ batters started beautifully with Australia’s young talent Phoebe Litchfield top scoring with 78 off 40 balls along with captain Meg Lanning with a solid effort (30 off 27 balls). However, the rest of the batters couldn’t put in meaningful contributions. Lower order batter Asha Sobhana caused the Giants some late scares with 27 off 10 balls but couldn’t help her team get over the line. The UP Warriorz eventually fell short by 10 runs. Renuka Singh was the pick of the Gujarat bowlers (2/25 in 4 overs) with help from Georgia Wareham and Sophie Devine who both picked up two wickets each but were far more expensive.

While DC will be reeling from that loss against MI, they would also want to quickly forget it and move on to find their first win. Both teams have some very talented players  and even though it’s tough to call, GG players look in better form and are also a more balanced side in comparison to DC, hence I believe this could be another close fight which the Gujarat Giants might end up winning.

Fantasy XI:  Laura Wolvaardt, Beth Mooney (wk), Jemimah Rodrigues, Marizanne Kapp, Chinelle Henry, Ashleigh Gardner (c), Alana King, Kim Garth, Nallapureddy Charani, Lucy Hamilton, Renuka Thakur.

Venue: Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai

Winners Prediction: Gujarat Giants
