Canelo Álvarez and Billy Joe Saunders are facing each other in a unification clash at the AT&T Stadium on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
Canelo’s last fight was a one-sided affair against Avni Yildirim in February, and now he is ready to stamp up his authority once again.
The 30 years old will start the fight as a favorite, but Saunders does have the potential to ring in an upset. The English man is still undefeated in his professional boxing career and would be eager to make a point in this heavy-duty clash.
The fight was poised to be held on May 2, last year, but the Covid pandemic disrupted the plan. The battle has been rescheduled for this month.
Canelo has been in scintillating form, and his record speaks volumes about his brutality in the ring. The Mexican has a win-loss record of 55-1-2 and has knocked out his opponents on 37 occasions.
Saunders got the better of Martin Murray back in December, but he had not been active since the November of 2019, and it could prove to be a handful against Canelo Álvarez, a fox in the box.
Almost 60,000 spectators are expected to throng the stadium, while many more are likely to tune in to witness history.
The more experienced Canelo, who has overcome almost 400 rounds of boxing, has the edge over the 31-year-old, who has only managed to gather just a mere 214 rounds so far in his boxing career.
Saunders cannot be taken lightly, but the circumstances are heavily clinging towards his opponent. Moreover, he looked clueless in his last fight, and given the resource Canelo has, he seems to have his hands full.
