Will Harry Kane break his trophy jinx this season?

Without a doubt, Harry Kane has been England’s most outstanding striker over the past decade. The former Tottenham Hotspur star has consistently posed a significant threat in front of goal. Beyond his natural finishing ability, the 31-year-old is an all-round centre-forward capable of linking up play, creating chances, and scoring from set pieces.

However, despite his brilliance on the pitch, Kane’s career has been marred by a lack of major silverware for both club and country, having lost two European Championship finals (in 2021 and 2024), an EFL Cup final (2020/21), and a Champions League final (2018/19).

Spurs haven’t been able to challenge for the Premier League title since the 2016/17 season, when they finished runners-up to Chelsea. However, a lack of effort on Kane’s end is not why Spurs and England haven’t clinched silverware. Such has been his consistency for club and country that he has to his name three Premier League Golden Boots (2015/16, 2016/17, and 2020/21), a PL Playmaker of the Season award (2020/21), a PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award (2016/17), and a FIFA World Cup Golden Boot (2018) among other individual honours.

Kane was expecting to win trophies when he moved to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, the Bavarians having been serial winners and Bundesliga champions since the 2012/13 season. However, Bayer Leverkusen turned up with a season for the ages last term and pipped them to the league title and the DFB-Pokal just in time for Kane’s bad luck to continue, even though he had a phenomenal debut season in the German top flight, registering 36 goals and eight assists.

Many believe Kane has brought his trophy “jinx” to Bayern, though many also point out that the Bavarians’ failure last season had more to do with Bayer Leverkusen having an exceptional campaign and other players in the Bayern setup not providing the veteran Englishman with enough support.

This season, however, Bayern are soaring in the Bundesliga once again. Currently, they hold a six-point lead at the top after 27 games. They’re also through to the Champions League quarter-finals and are strong contenders for the European top-flight crown.

With Kane and Co in excellent form, it’s likely Bayern at least reclaim their domestic crown. At long last, Kane is on track to add a team trophy to his impressive collection of individual honours—a reward he has long deserved after consistent world-class performances season after season.
