India tour of Australia 2025 | AUS vs IND: 5th T20I | Preview and Predictions

After taking an unbeatable lead in the five-match T20I series, the reigning world champions now will look to seal the series in Brisbane while the hosts will look to tie up the series.

For this game, here we present our preview and predictions.

India tour of Australia 2025 | 5th T20I | 13:45 IST, November 8

The Indian batting unit started well but went through a mini-collapse before Axar Patel stepped up and got the team to a respectable score in the previous game. Abhishek Sharma didn’t have a fluent start but Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a solid platform early on and contributions from Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav helped the scoreboard keep ticking early on. India were 121-2 at a point but slumped to 136-6 soon as a flurry of wickets seemed to have halted their charge. Some late fireworks from Washington Sundar and Axar Patel got India to a respectable 167, which in the end turned out to be more than enough.

What would trouble Yadav though is his own form and also the way Tilak Varma has been getting dismissed. Varma came into the series after a heroic showing in the Asia Cup 2025 finals but has had a horror show in Australia. The failure to make the scoop and flick behind square work has seen Varma have a poor series and batting at the top of the order, Varma’s failures have hurt the Indian team. With the ball, the Indian bowlers have been absolutely clinical and it was the spin trio of Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar putting the breaks on the Australian lineup. But more than the spinners, it will be the seamers in play in Brisbane.

Australia fought back hard with the ball, but their batting has been a big worry in the series and it once again let them down in a chase which they should’ve seen through. The top order got starts and despite having a lengthy batting lineup with Glenn Maxwell, it was a collapse from the home team as they had no answer to India’s spin attack. Captain Mitchell Marsh, Matt Short and Marcus Stoinis all got starts and spent a good amount of time in the middle and should’ve used their experience to see the game through. With the ball, the Australian squad did not feel the absence of Josh Hazlewood, with Nathan Ellis continuing to impress as the pacer has used all the tricks and pace changes to trouble the Indian batters. With Adam Zampa leaking runs, Australia have another spin option in Maxwell but it will be the support act of the likes of Stoinis who will be key for the hosts in Brisbane.

The form of the hosts doesn’t give a lot of promise for them to finish the series with a high and tie up the T20I series and with a strong pace attack on a quick and zippy Brisbane wicket, expect India to seal the series 3-1.

Fantasy XI: Abhishek Sharma, Mitchell Marsh, Shubman Gill, Josh Inglis (wk), Tim David, Marcus Stoinis (vc), Washington Sundar, Glenn Maxwell, Jasprit Bumrah ©, Varun Chakravarthy, Nathan Ellis

Venue: Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba, Brisbane
