Barring the slight wobble on the opening day after being put to bat, India dominated Bangladesh in the first Test match to pick up a massive 280-run win. Hasan Mahmud had put the hosts in a spot of bother at 144/6 but it was the old duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja that got the job done with the bat and bailed India out of a sticky situation, with Ashwin’s fourth Test hundred taking them to a respectable 376. Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers with 5/83, while the experienced Taskin Ahmed also chipped in with a couple of wickets. The Indian bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, were all over the visitors as Bangladesh were bundled out for a paltry 149.
Twin centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant in the second innings helped India put up a daunting target of 515. While Bangladesh started strongly, with Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto all getting decent starts, their batting lineup fell like a pack of cards once home hero Ashwin got into the act. A six-wicket haul from him, along with able support from Jadeja, saw Bangladesh go from from 124/2 to 234 all-out to hand India a big win.
Moving to Kanpur from Chepauk, the two teams will welcome black soil on a pitch that will be much flatter, slower, and most likely have a low bounce. This means we should be expecting a good amount of runs in the opening innings, though chasing on the fourth and fifth days will be extremely tough and the spinners will be licking their lips. Both sides will be looking to bring in the additional spinner in Kanpur, with Bangladesh having to sweat more with regards to their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s injury. Expect the much-stronger Indian squad to come out on top, but given the Indian batters’ struggles with spin off late, we should expect a close encounter.
Fantasy XI: Rohit Sharma, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shubhman Gill, Virat Kohli, Mushfiqur Rahim, KL Rahul, Shakib Al Hasan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jasprit Bumrah, Hasan Mahmud
