Match Number 31 of the IPL sees two teams in Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals, who are absolutely neck-and-neck with each other, face in what is bound to be an intriguing contest with multiple interesting subplots as the winner will make some breathing space from the rest of the teams below them.
Here is our Preview and Predictions for the game.
This contest is a clash between two top-orders whose approach towards the T20 game is miles apart from each other in every sense of the word. While Sunrisers Hyderabad have a penchant for the brute force and the ferocious intent of sending every ball out of the park, the Delhi Capitals put a lot of emphasis on wicket conservation and steady consolidation.
While both of these methods have their set of merits and demerits, on a Hyderabad surface that is once again expected to be a batting paradise, it might be the right time for DC to start mulling about a change in their batting approach up the order.
For Sunrisers, Travis Head’s poor returns have not deterred them from unleashing mayhem on bowling attacks whatsoever. Abhishek Sharma has once again found his form that made him the Number-1 ranked batsman in the world. Add in the stability and cautious aggression provided by stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan from number 3, it has provided the perfect platform for the likes of Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy to go bang-bang in the death overs. Klaasen, in particular, has been finding his range in the recent matches, and that can only bode well for the fortunes of the men in Orange.
For Delhi Capitals, it has been a curious case of solving one problem only to run into another one, and this has the potential to derail their entire season. While they have managed to solve their problem of the opening pair, they are now faced with the problem of an unsettled and unstable Number 3. Karun Nair was brought in last game and he failed miserably. Sameer Rizwi has tapered off after starting the season spectacularly, while Nitish Rana has been woefully out of form and very short on runs as well as confidence.
Delhi’s weakness at number 3 so far has been fairly compensated by their highly experienced and battle-hardened middle-order. Axar Patel, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs have redeemed their sides with crucial knocks, with David Miller finally burying the ghosts of the Gujarat Titans game by giving his side the win in the last over against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The bowling attacks of both sides have an exciting mix of young and experienced bowlers. Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain from SRH and Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan from DC represent a rather intriguing contest between youthful exuberance and veteran experience.
Both teams currently are on 6 points and only separated by Net Run Rate. The winner here will take a huge advantage while the loser will lose even further ground as the teams up their gears in the fight for the playoffs spot approaching the half-way mark of the season.
We believe that the Sunrisers Hyderabad will start as marginal favourites over the Delhi Capitals to win this game. Given that SRH have always scored above 200 whenever they have faced the Capitals, they will fancy their chances to make another big score and suffocate them under the weight of the runs.
Fantasy 11: Abhishek Sharma ( c ), KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, Axar Patel, David Miller, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Praful Hinge, Lungi Ngidi.
Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.
Winners Prediction: Sunrisers Hyderabad.
