NBA announces Ranveer Singh as Brand Ambassador

Bollywood actor announced as NBA’s Brand Ambassador for India.

The National Basketball Association announced on Friday that Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh would be the NBA Brand Ambassador for India. Singh will mainly work towards making the NBA more popular in the country and given that the NBA will be celebrating its 75th season this year, it would want nothing more than to grow the sport in the Indian market.

Speaking about bringing Ranveer on board, NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer, Mark Tatum said:

We are thrilled to welcome Ranveer Singh as NBA brand ambassador for India ahead of what promises to be a memorable 75th Anniversary Season. A Bollywood icon and one of the most celebrated actors of his generation, Ranveer is also a dedicated NBA fan who is passionate about the league and its players. We’re excited to work with Ranveer to engage with fans in India and around the world on a variety of platforms.

Meanwhile NBA Asia’s Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Scott Levy, added: “Ranveer is an ideal ambassador to headline the launch of NBA Style, our new Instagram handle that explores the intersection of basketball and culture. Art, fashion and entertainment are part of the fabric of India, and with Ranveer’s help, NBA Style will contribute to the cultural landscape and showcase how the league and its players have been shaped by and influence culture.

Singh will be working together with the NBA and take part in multiple marketing initiatives which he and the NBA will both promote through their social media platforms.

As the Brand Ambassador for India, the Bollywood actor will also be attending the 2022 NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland, where he will be meeting the players and the NBA legends alike and engage in multiple behind-the-scenes social media content.

Singh had previously attended the 2016 NBA All-Star Game in Toronto and had shared courtside images of the game with other stars.

Singh will also be featured on ‘NBA Style’, a new lifestyle-focused Instagram account fan specially curated for Indian fans to make the Indian audience more accustomed to the game and players while giving them the option to stay up to date with the league.

Speaking about his appointment as Brand Ambassador, Singh commented:

I have loved basketball and the NBA since my childhood and have always been fascinated with its influence on popular culture, including music, fashion and entertainment. With the NBA tipping off its 75th season celebrations, there couldn’t have been a better time to join forces with the league and support their efforts to grow basketball in the country.
