FIFA Club World Cup 2025: Group B Preview

Delwyn Serrao Delwyn Serrao

As we inch closer to the inaugural edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, our deep dive of previews continues as we look at the groups and how the teams in each group stack up against each other.

Here, we take a look at the teams of Group B of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and predict which ones will go through.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Group B Teams

  • Club Atlético de Madrid (Spain | UEFA)
  • Botafogo FR (Brazil | CONMEBOL)
  • Seattle Sounders FC (USA | CONCACAF)
  • Paris Saint-Germain FC (France | UEFA)

How did each team qualify?

Atlético Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain qualified for this tournament as two of the highest-ranked teams in the UEFA club rankings in the 2021–2024 period based on their performances in the highest continental competition, the UEFA Champions League.

Seattle Sounders qualified by winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup — the highest competition of the confederation — in 2022.

Botafogo, meanwhile, qualified by winning CONMEBOL’s highest competition, the Copa Libertadores, in 2024.

Brief overview of each team

PSG enter this tournament with quality, class, and huge momentum, having won the UEFA Champions League a few days ago in stunning fashion. With a nucleus of young talent featuring Désiré Doué, João Neves, Vitinha, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, alongside Brazilian veteran Marquinhos and the experienced Ousmane Dembélé, the Parisians look well-stocked to add another trophy to their cabinet.

Any team facing Atlético Madrid will be well aware of their suffocating defence, though they are much more than just a hardcore defensive side. With elite attacking options like Julián Alvarez, Alexander Sørloth, and Antoine Griezmann at their disposal, count the Los Rojiblancos out at your own peril.

Botafogo are led by former Manchester United and Al-Nassr defender Alex Telles and former Napoli and Everton midfielder Allan, and they also have a couple of young and exciting players coming through. Expect forward Igor Jesus and defenders Jair Cunha and Cuiabano to shine in this tournament.

As far as Seattle Sounders are concerned, they enter this tournament fairly distracted given their vociferous protest against the MLS players’ payout from the tournament, but they will hope to carry their league form with them — they’re currently in the play-off spots of the Western Conference.

Who makes it out of Group B?

It’s quite clear here as to which two sides should be expected to make the knockouts — PSG and Atleti have way too much quality, depth, and big-tournament expertise. With all due respect to Botafogo and the Sounders, their European opponents are just a notch too big for them to stand a chance.

We back PSG and Atlético Madrid to qualify as group winners and runners-up, respectively.
